Performance boost and a large list of improvements

After two weeks of hard work we are excited to release a major game update.

Most important, the update (build 4519) brings the long awaited performance boost. Navigation, rendering, simulation and line manager performance have been significantly improved. The game now runs more fluently and big lags are history. However, note that the first view still needs some processing time, but as soon as a region has been explored the game runs fast.

In addition to that, there is a large list of improvements and bug fixes. For instance, railway signals are now animated, the main menu shows a progress bar when loading a save game, and buildings now show detailed facades consistently when zoomed in. As always, many improvements have been motivated by community requests.

Please find the complete release notes here.

You may wonder what we do next. Still there is a large to-do list. One top priority issue is way points or at least line track selection at stations. Also, track construction should be more convenient. In addition there is a list of details like e.g. make cars waiting at railroad crossings. There will also be more performance optimization (especially for very large scenes) and finally, we also want to implement the widely requested vehicle auto replacement feature.

You can be sure that we continue to listen to the community and improve the game, and we are confident to present a next game update soon.

Thanks for your continuing interest in Train Fever!

  1. Excellent work guys!
Listen to the community and improve the game that what we love to hear.
    A Big Thank You.

  2. great news! thank you!!

btw: on my mac, on the first start of the game, the menu was inactive, so i restarted the game with CMD+Q.
On the second start it also took about 3-4 seconds to aktivate the menu function, but now it runs as hell, after you once scroll over the whole map.

  3. I’ve purchased the game a few weeks ago and I’m really impressed by the number of regular updates. It’s really nice to see that the developpers, despite being a small team, are listening to the player’s feedback and requests.
A big thank to the team for all their efforts 🙂

  4. Thanks for the update. Keep up the good work. Finally I can play in 64bits under Windows XP 😀 Too bad I won’t have much time for playing anytime soon.

  5. This game came out of nowhere to become one of the best games ever created, thank you dev team 🙂

  6. Thanks for the update, but it’s not working for me.
Somehow, the download stops everytime 4.0 MB are reached. Any suggestions?

  7. Great work.
Also it will be great if the waiting stations for buses/trams will auto upgrade as well

Now the game works very great in speed.

    Great works guys.
You deserve all congratulations and i am sure that this game will evolve very much.

  8. Good work guys, been playing this non-stop for days…well ok, toilet and food breaks!
Your fixes are much appreciated. I’m a new game developer and know how much work goes in to make this stuff happen.
Keep the updates coming, it may seem relentless, but it’s all worth it.

  9. Wow. What a great update. I’m not one to post much, but this update has been great. It really sped up everything. Keep up the great work. I’m looking forward to adding some sweet mods, but if the updates to the core game keep flowing like this I will also be looking forward to buying some DLC to add new vehicles/trains. Especially if it helps support continued development. Would love to see some nice ICE trains. Also some S-bahn trains would be cool.

Another cool add-on would be some type of cog railway that can climb some steeper grades.

Thanks for creating what has quickly become one of my all-time favorite games. I’ve been a long time model railroader and city simulation fan and this game is really like a nice virtual model train set.

  10. Thank you guys! Really happy you are listening to the players and pushing out updates in this pace 🙂 I wasn’t even going to buy the game before i get a better computer but I just had to try it and after last update it actually runs a LOT better (after you scroll over once) This will be a great game for many many years to come!

  11. what about rail crossing? so rails can cross each other since its really much needed and should be in there from 1st first but is not

  12. “and finally, we also want to implement the widely requested vehicle auto replacement feature.”

this would be great to be included in one of the next updates, really.

I know, it is a hard work to read all of the suggestions and try to realize them in further updates – but you doing a great job and the community will be thankful forever, that you do this!

  13. And now hotkeys please. 🙂

    Esc – Menu

  14. Game is crashing…….

after the update to build4519 the game is crashing down after 10 clicks…..everytime….

i played yesterday for at least 4 hours with the older version without any problems….and now
    it isn’t working any more……..very sad……

  15. Very well done this update, to be honoust I’ve left TrainFever for awhile because it didn’t seem to run smoothly on my old rig.

Now I noticed a very significant performance boost which makes me wanna play this game again. Now I’m able to play this game like it’s supposed to. The performance before was mediocre but I blaimed my old PC for that. Thank you for your hard work Dev’s and your commitment to your fans. I’m very grateful and curious how this game will even develop more.

    Thank you so much!

  16. After this update game is crashing in random places. Not able to play saved games and new games. Please fix it!

  17. Finally! This was a long awaited update and it will hopefully increase performance markedly. I was holding back so far with a purchase because of the performance issues but now I feel inclined to buy the game. Very satisfying to see you work on the game continuously!

  18. hello

  19. was bridges over stations added or it was already there and I didn’t notice? it’s coolest thing ever!

  20. Having some stability issues after updtae. Game Crashes every 5 mins…
    No problems before last patch.

Great Game, loving it so far, but corrupted after last update.

    System:
    I74700MQ
    Radeon 8970M
    8gb DDR3 ram
    Win 8.1 x64

Feel free to contact if more info/crash report is recuired!

    kind regards, Karstuh

  21. Does the number of build mean what many times you had trials and errors? The prevous version number was 4414 and this one is 4519. You had 104 times to make this game better for us. That’s just remarkable. Thank you! And please keep best good care like this. I really wish this game overcome any bad situations to be the legend game. Hope you guys going well.

  22. For me, now the game crashed after some time (two or three real minutes) and I don’t see the lights of new signal block (even in FXAA 4x).

    • I had the same problem with the signals. Try deactivating FXAA. That should bring back the lights.

  23. Thanks for this Update.
    New suggestion:
save (use the last name, or at first save (current filename empty) open save as ..)
save as .. with empty box but do not overwrite exist files.

  24. Thank you for great update!!
Becomes best game day by day.
I am looking forward to coming more improvement.

  25. Didn’t have a chance to play the game, but the screenshots look amazing, so I will probably give it a shot. There aren’t many train games these days, at least not good ones, and this one looks very professional and promising. I will do a review of it, and post it on my blog trainarcade.com, to spread a word a little bit.

  26. we also need a way to create articulated locomotives so they don’t look on on the tracks from making a tighter than normal turn.

  27. The game crash after update… everytime… when i start new game, or load game it always crash :-/

  28. This game looks good, but i dont buy it unless multiplayer is implemented. A very simple one would do. I just want to see what may friends build and want to show what i build.

  29. Now, I can’t play more than 5 to 10 minutes, and the game crash …
Thanks for the automatic savegames, but it would be better not to use them so often.
It never crashed with the preceding updates.

  30. Small thing but auto save could be optional, don’t like it myself, freezes up the game everytime it saves.

  31. Really excited to play, downloaded it got everything ready but when I press new game it loads to 100% and then goes to a black screen and finally crashes on a mac 64 bit, any advice?

  32. Just got to play the update last night. Seems very much improved so far.

I see no mention of increased industries or cargo type, but they have magically appeared! Not sure what the deal is but this is a great step forward.

I would like to see the cargo icons being a little bigger. It’s hard to see what those little figures are (e.g., the oil barrel).

And the list of cargos a vehicle will carry is enormous. It’s difficult to see what is actually being carried. Is it possible that when a truck has “8 OIL” that line can be red or green or bold or bigger or something so that you can spot it more quickly instead of having to read through the entire list of things that truck can carry?

Whatever, the game is getting more interesting and more fun as it develops!

    Thanks guys!

  33. Still waiting for updates that will allow me to play on Intel HD 2000/3000.

    Or Fix this OpenGL problem.

  34. Optimized storage size of large truck cargo station (more storage size now)

Could u give us please more information about it? How high is the actual storage size now?

  35. Loving it!

Now a couple of AI players, who also (slowly) start developing lines and transporting stuff and this can be an even better game… It would surely improve replay value and make the game much more into a…. game.

I think inspiration can be taken from the original Transport Tycoon…

    Keep up the good work!

  36. The game seems unplayable to me after this patch :< I get enormous 20 to 40 seconds lags at the beginning of each month. In the previous build I had a large map with 11 towns filled with busses and it was rather smooth but now 6 towns on a medium map is just a pain 🙁

  37. the game is smother in the beginning when I opened my last saved game but when I make or build something the game crashes every time. so I reinstalled the game and delete the saved file but in the new game also where their is no track or line it still crashes.
