Theres no reason to mess up 64bit system with all the 32bit dependencies either:P And some systems, unlike Windows, are not stuck with 32bit. And since all the hardware in last 8years is 64bit,  theres no point in being stuck at 32bits. Magically nothing happens, but the game can benefit from being 64b.

Only need 32bit registers? Well that’s just too bad – Your processor is still going to process another 32bit every time for no reason.

Sure there can be a lot of benefits, but it isn’t a no brainer to just blindly do everything in 64bit. 🙂

For simulation games 64 bit is much much much more  than just a buzzword. Ever tried to handle large maps with ohne 32 bit memory addresses? I doubt it.

For Train Fever, large maps are completely unuseable without a 64 bit game exe.

As JM points out, we’ve only just received 64bit support today, and I have not noticed any change in performance on my large map games. Sure you can go further with 64bit – But it’s a waste for as long as you don’t actually need it. It wastes resources.
