[BUG] Tunnel merging problem – colliding ends – Train Fever /forums/topic/bug-tunnel-merging-problem-colliding-ends/feed/ Wed, 30 Apr 2025 12:36:08 +0000 https://bbpress.org/?v=2.6.13 en-US /forums/topic/bug-tunnel-merging-problem-colliding-ends/#post-16646 <![CDATA[[BUG] Tunnel merging problem – colliding ends]]> /forums/topic/bug-tunnel-merging-problem-colliding-ends/#post-16646 Tue, 03 Feb 2015 09:07:22 +0000 HPoltergeist Hi Guys!

Today I’ve found this very annoying bug with the tunnels.

If I try to build two long tunnels along, it won’t allow because the tunnel endings will collide with each other. Therefore it is impossible to build a double tunnel under large hills under some circumstances.

On the pictures below you can see the tunnels I’ve tried to build for about 2 hours(!) now with different layouts. No success.

Starting point: http://oi60.tinypic.com/20acaa1.jpg
The tunnels (parallel): http://oi58.tinypic.com/10rljk9.jpg
The other end: http://oi61.tinypic.com/2u9hc9v.jpg

I’ve tried to raise the mountainside for them but still nothing:

The other end: http://oi61.tinypic.com/11lodtu.jpg

Please fix it ASAP because it is so lame and annoying.

Thanks,
HP

It just looks like your parallel tracks aren’t “connected”, i. e. considered as belonging to the same route. If you look closely you’ll notice that tracks that are snapped to each other while dragging should have no gap (or small ditch) in between them, and the posts for the overhead wires (if existing) are placed at the opposite sides of the track bed. In your first image this can be seen at the bottom of the image. Now, for some reason when you drag the second track it apparently doesn’t connect it to the existing parallel track, and therefore it also doesn’t extend the existing tunnel entrance to fit two tracks but rather tries to build a new, separate tunnel entrance. Perhaps this is a bug, perhaps not, but many times issues like this can be overcome/worked around by either dragging a small piece of track at first and then try to build the tunnel from the new starting point, or by removing a potentially small piece of ending track that is causing this separation, or by starting from the opposite side and dragging towards the end of the track.

I’ve tried various combinations with these tunnels over 2 hours. Tried to rebuild them again and again, various ways, even completely destroying all segments of it and starting over from a snapped line pair on both sides.
None of them worked.
I’m quite sure it is a bug.

Thanks for your opinion.

I’ve had exactly the same thing, only to find that it works perfectly well if I try laying the track from the other end or deleting the original line and relaying it a few feet to one side. It’s just a case of try, try, try again.

I was trying with it for 2 hours. And yes, I’ve tried it from the other end. I’ve tried everything.

I’ve built two separate tunnels because of this. I’ve spent load of in game money ($10-30M) on this (and a lot of time), luckily I have the income for this. But who has a starting company easily can go bankrupt this way.
So please, don’t say to try again without thinking it over. Thank you.

Also as you’ve said:

“and poor in game mechanics” – so pretty much a bug. This should work this way? No. Then it’s a bug. I won’t try again.

Don’t tell me that finally it is a feature! 😉

I’d like to see some answers from the developers too. Or from others who had the same problem, so this bug could be fixed as soon as possible. =)

Thanks,
HP
