In notepad , when you save, in the save file dialog, at the left side of the ‘save’ button you see file encoding ANSI, change that to UTF-8. If no dialog pops up, then do a ‘save as..’ and the dialog will pop up..  save it over the original :).

Sublime Text is better editor by the way 😉 just saying.

Nice bridge there leew! And a big city :P. How big is it?

I think it was just under 750 pop, because I just got the “city” achievement after taking that picture

@Nique: How did you manage to place your goods station so close to the passenger one? I can´t fine position the damn thing, no matter how hard i try. It always turns like 5 or 10 degrees, when i need 1 or 2. Also,  what did you do to the colors? Looks very nice!

Which bridge is nice?  There are quite a few bridges in that picture 🙂  The curved bridge in the foreground which is part of a flying junction.  There are two road bridges, the original bridges had to be bulldozed as I could not build level crossings over the roads, as much as I tried I just kept getting “collision”.  Then there are the two skewed rail bridges over the river.  I tried to upgrade the first 2 track bridge to 4 tracks but just kept getting “collision” so ended up having to build the second bridge separately, looks quite good I think.

There is a second flying junction just off the top right of the picture, I have two lines in an ‘X’ shape with this city at the center of the ‘X’.  Originally this was a 2 track station with flat junctions each side however it became congested so I upgraded it to the current arrangement.

leew, in your picture some of the signals have three filled white dots and some only have one filled white dot. What’s the difference?

    Sorry for a bit ot…

@Stevo those 3 filled dots are normal signals, those with only 1 are one way signals which means a train can only pass it from one direction.

@Gax about the colors, i changed my fog.fs file:

    https://gist.github.com/Nique/c16ca12398b37f61e887#file-fog-fs

And the stations.. yes it was a hell of a job but it worked :P. I spend like 7M on just 1 station :P.

I wish there was a snap feature for stations just like when you plop signals.

@Azrael Well it depends on your text editor, but in Notepad, click Save as… and  there is “Encoding” drop down menu. Here select Unicode UTF-8 and replace the original file.

@Nique: I inserted your change into my  file, but it crashed my game.  I tried using your code instead of as well as together with the existing one, no difference. Any ideas?  About your station layout, do you have some more vague info about how i can waste 7 million and get similiar results? 🙂

    About the shader
Weird. It’s working on my side

    About the station

Step 1, place the first part:

    Step 2, even the terrain:

Step 3, remove the rail and place the other station:

Thanks Nique and Leew, that looks beautiful and inspiring (and very overwhelming for a dillitant like me.. 😉

Nique, can you elaborate on your bus lines a bit, please ? F.i. why do you have 3 bus lines running instead of just one ?…

    Thanks!

I want full coverage on the city. The funny part is: 2 of the 3 are making profits. One (the red) doesn’t. But that’s because that line overlays a part of the other line. Never do that, only ‘cross’ other lines so passengers can change there. And that’s why i build these groups of stops at the crossings. So people from one line can change quickly :). Another advantage of laying out your bus stops at crossings like this is that your busses will not cause traffic jams for the whole crossing if they have to load/unload. Do not place a bus 2 meters after a crossing, busses who stop there will jam the whole crossing.

Of course you could make 1 line and zigzag all the way through your city but people wont use the line because walking from their home to their destination is faster than zigzagging with your bus through the whole city. More lines makes it possible for people at B and C to get to A in time :).

Also, with this multiline configuration, people can still get from C to somewhere between the crossing of both lines and B. (leisure stuff).
