I just downloaded Train Fever for the Mac via Steam but it won’t start. I get an error “Failed to start game (missing executable).

    Any ideas?

The reason for the error is because the Mac and Linux versions of the game won’t come out until the 11th 😛

I confirmed this issue on the following configurations:

    – OSX 10.9, Steam version “Jan 2014″, iMac 24” 2009

    – OSX 10.9, Steam version “Aug 28 2014″, iMac 24” 2009

    – OSX 10.10, Steam version “Aug 28 2014″, iMac 27” 2014

I get the same error on all three configurations.

So does that mean that Steam happily downloaded the wrong build? I guess that is a bug.

No it just predownloaded other files that will be needed.

Probable you have a McAfee AV program. McAfee considers the missing executable W32/NGVCK.d game file as a virus and has replaced it in quarantaine isolation. Its a known issue, see below the topic link and there the last reaction of the game developer, he wrote it in English too.

He is talking about Mac version which hasn’t been released yet.

Thanks for your responses, guys. I will wait until the Mac version is released and try again.
