ParticipantHi,
Can somebody explain in the following example why the goods aren’t transported by train to each city? (see screenshots)
I have 1 line, 4 trains and 3 cargo stations. The goods also won’t be transported by horse (30 pieces). When I remove a part of road to a city, the goods wouldn’t be transported by train either. Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong?
This mod is far more realistic and gives a greater challenge. Keep up the good work!

ParticipantMod has been updated to version 44. Please redownload from:
http://www.train-fever.net/filebase/index.php/Entry/535-Balance-Mod/
Fixes include removal of the bug Bosvelt has reported. Some goods cars were actually carrying wood…

ParticipantYour balance mod reduces horse-drawn carts speed from 15 km/h to 7 km/h effectively making them useless since they’re much much slower even than “cargo icons”.
Is that intentional and if so, why?

ParticipantAh, that explains it. Tried the mod and removed it very very quickly, finding the same problem as above … cargo is not moved anymore. Annoying.

ParticipantIt is intentional. Although I see it as problematic, now that you mention it.
The rationale was to make them less competetive with rail. The historical reality was, that railroads were such a revolutionary invention that all other forms of transport. Horses needed to be fed, switched and could barely move the tonnage. Average horse cart could only haul 0.5 to 1 ton of cargo, depending on circumstances. Average speed of 7km/h is actually quite optimistic. 15km/h, as in base game, would kill the animals pretty darn fast.
I’ll take a look if I can make something about it.

ParticipantA handful of things in this game are unrealistically buffed/debuffed based due to gameplay reasons. And the speed of horse-carts is one of them. If you really wish to keep horse carts speed at 7 km/h, you should find a way to reduce cargo-icon speed from 10kmh to at least 4 or 5 km/h to make the slow horse carts at least theoretically competitive against them. Without that modification, there is no possible way of making 7km/h horse drawn carts in any way useable.
Even if this is possible to reduce the cargo-icon speed, you should test it thoroughly to see, if the mega-slow speed of cargo-lines early game changes the way the industry functions and what an overall impact of the speed is compared to unmodded game, because of all these arbitrary rules, like 20min max. transportation time and so on.
I understand your point of view though. It’s just not 100% compatible with how the game works i’m afraid. You will have to find a way to fix this issue.

ParticipantThere is not an easier way than editing a file of the horse-cart and make the speed higher. It takes one minute of your life…

Participantyes coujou, it is easy. However I don’t know how to edit cargo icon speed to make it slower. Your whole point is utterly invalid.

ParticipantHi uzurpator,
I think you trying to fix something which can not be fixed. The cargo system itself needs a fix, imho. See this post: /forums/topic/cargo-system-is-broken/
If you could something about this with modding, it would be awsome!

ParticipantSome quick thoughts on your balance mod:
– Passenger is way to profitable. Even on the hard difficulty im making millions. I can make loads of money if i try by the year 1900, and that makes teh game boring later.
– The cannstat DMW still carries 6 tons of goods. (it should be 2 or 1)
– The horse carriages don’t trigger the line to be used. They need a speed of 15 to do that. I tried 10 kph, but that didn’t worked.
– Cargo is very much unprofitable until you hit some decent horse power engines. Most of my lines pre-crocodile barely break even.
Anyway, i’m enjoying this mod; thank you for your work !
