Steps to do a road bypass

Howdy all,

My intention is not to start a flame war, or a place to gripe about broken features, but to get useful advice, if any exists, on how to actually do a bypass. All postings I have found in the forums and on the Internet do not offer any advice on how to accomplish it.

Is it possible to do what the game wants and “First Build a Bypass”? Or has no one figured out what the game wants?

I built a station that abuts a road, and I cannot pave the dirt road, or widen it.

I built T-intersections away from the station, then built a road connecting them and “bypassing” the original road. When I try and bulldoze the original road, it still asks me to first build a bypass.

I just realized I have not unpaused the game to see if it needs to learn that a bypass exists. I will do that now.
