Happened to me before with missing part of electricity, or missing rail – in both cases just a tiny portion that was very time consuming and difficult to locate, had to look at rail line closely like 5 times before I noticed it… took me like 15-20 minutes.

Yep it does seem quite a lot. As I seen town growth is always slow no matter what you do. I use like 6 lines in my capital + the 6 incoming. It’s decades till you actually see some better numbers. 🙂

Amagaad, one of these days I’m going to learn how to put up pictures properly within the allowed edit time! Bad forum, bad… how do you do it, html tags like size to 100% or…?

Just a bit of update from the same, my layouts aren’t as precise though as I just do stuff don’t look at it from close distance. 🙂

Now I just need to start to make prettier tracks next game. I should do the train only achievement anyway.

Have some faith, it’s not trivial to make all these kind of modifications in a week or three. They’re human too. Not to mention everyone wants something different, for example I am annoyed by some things and vehicle replacement is low on my priority list, there’s many things that are much more uncomfortable. Did not draft a list yet but a bit more complicated industry with a bit more accessibility for trains and less restrictive building generally (tracks, bridges, junctions etc), ofc with the optimization bit, would be awesome. After all currently I play small map, if game would run in 2000s fine on my machine I’d never play anything but large. 🙂

No one likes to wait for anything. After 2 months of reading and gathering info I just preordered my new bike and they told me it’ll probably arrive end of January. Jesus christ I want it now… you know? 🙂

I see what you’re saying but building is quite a bit restrictive which means you need a lot of space for it because of collisions and whatnot. It’s not always simple and practical to build another line next to the existing one. For a junction sometimes you use like 1/4 of the map with curves and all and that’s a bit excessive. I agree that in real life building such things is difficult and painful but I don’t wish to replicate all the problems of real life in a game 🙂

Currently I try and build trains because I like them, not because it’s worth it. I’m not saying I necessarily want to run 200 (or 1000) trains on a map like in Openttd but it would be great to have the space and the financial gain to build and use so much more trains than at the moment. I play on medium. I find it that for industry it’s only worth it to use trains when I centralize the production and I feed raw mats to a factory that serves multiple cities (4-8), and even then only for the raw mats part. In my current game (small map) I made 6 train lines that connect my cities to a main one. It’s a hit and miss, I just rebuilt stuff and bought more modern trains and I lose like 10m-15m per month from all these trains. I’m sure it weill be better after like 10 years…

I’d generally like if we were able to use more lines, more trains, being Train Fever you know. Such restrictive building, expensive running costs, and having to upgrade manually are too much of a pain really. Rebuilding will always be an option, perhaps if we could see the speed restrictions of a line after it was built not just in building tool would help making the decision of upgrade vs rebuild, then it would be a real option.

What route calculation flaw are you referring to? My cargo finds the route just fine…

In linux just make a symlink for the save directory that points to a hard disk. 🙂

This never happened to me, you’re missing something.

That switching thing happened to me too, I was hauling ore quite some distance – trip was taking like a year or something, 2x 50 km/h trains. I managed to stabilize it when I added another train to increase frequency to like 5 or 6 minutes. As soon as I used 2x 100 km/h trains from 1910 or so, it didn’t happen anymore. Mind you, this happened on a small map so the distance wasn’t all that big, still almost a map distance vertically.

Well you know pedestrians, they cross the streets whether there is a designated pedestrian crossing :p

Talk about fixes, I’d like to have an option where cities don’t build small, curvy streets themselves and they let me build a nice (fugly but efficient?) grid. :p

Dunno, I used oil before and it worked. Check that stations are connected (industry shows it). I did have problems when I deleted the default road near industry and made mine, apparently wasn’t close enough.

in reply to: n00b question, is there a limit to the lines you can make? #9608

I never hit a hard limit yet, with about 65 lines. I did have a lot of lag late game so abandoned that large map. 🙂
