I disagree that this is a bad game. It just lacks some more comfort features and a long term motivation.
I would really like to have some more content and challenges in the game. Maybe some unique szenarios that give you a task to complete to show you more aspects.
Another idea would be, to get more environments into the game. I would really love to have a wild-west szenario or an australian outback map style.
DecrayerParticipantDecrayerParticipantAlthough the trains have quite high costs, if they run properly, they also give you the most revenue. In the early years, one line can give you easy 100.000 – 600.000 revenue. If you compare that with bus lines, you can almost say they are insignificant. In the modern times, some of my train lines give me 6 million in good years. And I run 4 passenger lines, so sometimes I have 18 Million income per year.
But some hints: Don’t run cargo trains in the beginning, a factory has to have about 3-5 cities as connected markets in order to grow to dimensions where it makes sense to use trains.
DecrayerParticipantI’m in the year 2080 in my game. I had to reduce the frequency of the lines to about 3-4 minutes to compete with the cars. Overall, they are quite slow, so if you use some 200km/h running trains and proper high-speed tracks they can beat the cars easily.
I also destroyed the shortest street connections between the cities and build longer ones (just to help them, so they don’t have to climb steep hills 😉 ). But I didn’t notice a significant increase.
But I noticed, that if you have a big city, the cars get stuck anyway because there are so many. So they balance themselves out somehow. In that case, I can really recommend to build bus-lanes, so your trams and busses don’t get stuck and get another advantage over cars. So in the end, cars are not that much of a problem.

DecrayerParticipantI like the way high speed trains work. They are not meant to be used for short range city connections, but for connecting larger distances. I really like how trains in this game accelerate and move more realistically, please don’t change that. But I do hope that soon we be getting a wider amount of available trains so that we have real alternatives and not just one or two possible ones for one job.
DecrayerParticipantYes, a Feature that would allow us to say to wait for full but max x minutes like in rollercoaster tycoon would be cool.
DecrayerParticipantThe Trick is to increase the market for the produced goods of a certain production. For example if you have a train route that can deliver goods to 3 different cities, the production will upgrade to 200 capacity. That enables you to use much longer trains.
But on the other hand I support your request, the cargo capacity of trucks vs. trains should be rebalanced.
DecrayerParticipant@morgen: Yes, I agree. I only use the short tgv’s and they are not very effective, but I really like the so I keep tinge as my flagship trains and finance them via other lines. I really much use the available s-bahn mod a lot for the rest.
And you can easily alter a city for lower cost when first building you train station and then additional streets around it so that with ongoing time the city grows around it. But don’t forget to reserve some space with tracks for future expansion!
DecrayerParticipantMaglev trains are only useful when connecting big distances. That’s one of the reasons we don’t have them in europe. And in the game, my tgv doesn’t even reach the 300 in between two cities if I don’t build a special track with no intermediate stops from one corner of the map to the other.
DecrayerParticipantIm in the year 1980. For now, I don’t have much cargo transportation. But I Â recognized, that as soon as cars are available, they put some pressure on you to provide shorter intervals. So I countered that development with shorter but more trains. I have 4 to 6 trains per line, Â 3 min Intervalls. You could also destroy streets or make the longer to gain advantage over private automotives.
I also extended my net, running 4 train lines each with 3 to 9 stops connecting  almost every city on the middle sized map. To increase the amount of passengers, I build a local tram service in every city starting from the train station and going through the middle of the city in one line (no circle line).
But I noticed, that it’s quite hard to run a realistic long intercity service for example with tgv’s. Therefore I currently start to build a cargo line. To run it profitable, I know that I have to transport the goods to more than one single city. Because as soon as you create enough demand in form of reachable markets for a steel production, it will increase its size and make longer transportation trains possible which have a higher profit margin.

DecrayerParticipantThe game really needs more vehicles. But on the other hand side it forces you to make interesting choices. Should you really buy the locomotive that came go 200 if you don’t have any wagons that can go that fast? And you also need a big and long track, otherwise they will not reach and profit from the high speed.
DecrayerParticipantI use waiting for full load only on freight lines. Flor passengers, I think it is necessary to deliver a shorter cycle and therefore I never use waiting on passenger lines.

DecrayerParticipantI support this request, I would really like to have that more realistic.
