ParticipantI think demolition cost is hard-coded, a percentage of the building’s value.

ParticipantHave to agree with the others I’m afraid. Modders only have so much time on their hands and tend towards locomotives from their home nations, the things they saw on the railways while growing up. If the game can attract modders from America, then I’m sure there will be American mods (I think this may be why the only official DLC released for this game was the American set, but I don’t think it succeeded in raising interest in the game enough over there).

ParticipantThe “not enough space” error is usually caused at the start of where you’re building a road or where you are joining it to another.
I’ve noticed that map-generated roads are built in segments (hover the bulldozer over it to see) and if you try to make an intersection too close to where two segments join, it’ll give a ‘not enough space’ error. (similar errors if you try to make a railway crossing over or too close to a segment join in a road)…
It’s one of the quirks in this game which adds a lot of trial and error to road and railway building…

ParticipantA 250 passenger train right from the word go? No wonder it isn’t profitable. It takes many many years for a new train line to see that many passengers use it.
For a route to be profitable, your income from fares must exceed the cost of running expenses. More carriages = more expensive. If a passenger train isn’t at least half full, it’ll make a loss.
The other thing I note is you’re competing with yourself. If you want your train line between cities to carry passengers, why are you also running bus lines between the cities?
Something else you say, your train line is one big loop, serving 8 cities in just one direction and has just 3 trains running on it? I somehow doubt the actual frequency of each city receiving a train is every 6 minutes or so. That’s a more believable figure for 1 train going back and fourth between 2 cities, so 3 trains between 8… Also of course your train loop is only going in one direction, so people in the top left city wanting to go to the top middle left city wont see the point of going all the way round the game map, so they’re using your buses to go straight there instead…
Try:
-removing bus routes between cities
-double up the track in your loop so you can run trains both clockwise and counter clockwise.
-adding more trains with fewer carriages. You need to keep an eye on passenger numbers and adjust your train sizes to suit. Remember a passenger train needs to be at least half full to make profit, don’t add too many carriages… Also too many carriages might slow the train down too much if it isn’t strong enough to pull them, and passengers wont use your trains if they’re slower than cars or buses.

ParticipantNot sure if this is the right thread, but I’ve found an issue that needs fixing.
When you upgrade standard track to high speed track at a station, everything waiting at that station is removed from existence, even if it’s not waiting on the same platform. I found this to my cost just now when I upgraded the track at a freight terminal and lost over 150 items of cargo waiting there.
Same problem happens with passenger stations too.

ParticipantPaolo, looking at that screenshot, it seems the factory is using the truck depot to deliver it’s goods. Your trains are losing money because they’re not carrying enough goods to make a profit. The factory may not be giving to the demand of the city, linked by rail, due to a number of possible reasons. Most likely;
– It’s product is wholly taken by the city served by trucks
or
– The city on the other end of the rail line is being served by another factory, and has little or no demand for this factory.

ParticipantI have a suggestion. Thought of this one several times in my games…
It would be nice if it were possible for stations to have road access from both sides of the tracks. At the moment, roads can only connect to one side, and if the city grows to surround your station, the citizens living on the other side have a long way to go to get into the station, even if their house is right next to a platform.
