Ok, just tried to play again tonight, and after just 5 mins the game just quite and this time showed this error: cannot open res/models/material/street/country_new_medium_border.mtl bad file descriptor. The only mods I am using are those which came with the game (no cost, no road removal etc).
leewParticipantHi, in crash_dump, there are 3 files, an old one from sept 2014 with a long name which appears to contain binary data (it’s gibbrish if I open it with Vim), one called stderr.txt which is empty and one called stdout which contains this:
PreventSetUnhandledExceptionFilter: 1
locale name: * (en_US.utf8)========================================
Startup at Sun Mar 29 13:18:37 2015
========================================seed: 1427631517
I downloaded that application and here is the screendump:
Many thanks for the help, lee.

leewParticipantWould upgrading to 16gb or even 24gb of ram help?
leewParticipantHi, my steam profile is here: http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561197963150918/
My computer spec is as follows:
O/S: Windows 8.1 64 bit
CPU: Core i7-4710mq 2.5ghz
RAM: 8gb
Graphics card: GeForce GTX 860M
leewParticipantJust tried to play again, and after about 15 mins (all on “pause” while building), it crashed again, here is a screenshot:
leewParticipantI would rather not put it here publically, is there anyway I can DM you?
leewParticipantYes I can and have done a few times while traveling.
leewParticipantARRRGGGHHHH, not that word, I never want to see that dreaded word again! So there I am laying track, and half the time I just see the “C-word” appear but I can’t see anything in the way of the track!
leewParticipantEverything is awsome 🙂

leewParticipantI am currently in 2032 with a medium map and have quite a few big towns, with my “capital” about 1250 population. Upto about year 2000 performance was very good even with all settings maxed however it’s since become very choppy to the point it’s almost unplayable and I think I will have to abandon the game and start a new one. I have a new computer which I bought specifically for playing TF as my old one was not up-to the job (it was 5 years old). The machine cost about 1000 euro so it’s not a cheap one and I have a quad core i7 CPU and Nvidia GeForce 860M GFX.
I tried reducing the graphics settings, turning off HDR, reflections/shadows etc which did not seem to do much to help making me think my GFX is not the problem. According to windows task manager CPU usage is under 20% and I still have 4GB of RAM free so I have no idea what is causing the slowness.
Many thanks for sorting this. I will look forward to being able to play with big cities.
leewParticipantI would really like to make some UK trains.
I would like to see:
- Class 43 loco & BR mk3 coaches (Intercity 125 HST)
- Class 91 logo & BR mk4 coaches (Intercity 225)
- Class 373 (eurostar)
- Class 370 (Intercity APT-P)
- Class 390 (pendolino)
- Class 185 (Siemens Desiro)
I’m thinking about having a go at making the Intercity 125 HST as my first mod 🙂

leewParticipantI would love to see this :). Due to changing my lines about I have bits of disused track in my network (mostly chords) however I have not bulldozed them in-case they are needed for future services. Would be really cool if these bits of track looked disused.
leewParticipantI’d like to see a Double decker, maybe a Routemaster in the game 🙂 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Routemaster
