    Here are some links to the OpenTTD wiki pages that explain some signalling and layout concepts very well. TF players should note that at the time of this post not all of the signal types mentioned are in TF:

    Signals overview: https://wiki.openttd.org/Signals

    Advanced path signal layouts: https://wiki.openttd.org/Advanced_path_signal_layouts

    Owen’s pages (tons of superb info  here): http://www.transporttycoon.net/rail

    I tried making these into proper links but the forum keeps losing my post when I do that 🙁

    I guess I’d like an open beta too really, but the time to set it up would probably distract the devs from what they really need to do on the game so realistically I don’t see it happening.

    If you think this is bad you should try being in the queue waiting for your Oculus Rift DK2 to ship. It’s quite taken my mind off TF.

    Hey, I have no issue whatsoever with ranting, and It’s great to see some English vids on TF finally. I’m just trying to offer some constructive criticism, not bashing at all.

    Looking forward to your next vid already.

    @hert

    That’s a good point. I’d expect immature industries to have lower production, so if you have a train with wait for full orders then it’s going to spend a heck of a lot of time sitting at a station burning maintenance costs.

    One thing I haven’t seen yet is whether different industries have a return that’s based on speed of service like mail. If stations are strictly split between freight and passengers does that mean that there’s no mail like the TDD games?

    It would also be interesting to know whether an industry has preferred destinations, e.g. does a coal mine only want to deliver to a local industry, or is it open to you opening up a long distance rail route to a consumer a long distance away?

    I agree with baronjutter. I’m 9 minutes in to watching it there’s a lot of umm…ahhh, it just needs a bit more planning on what you’re going to cover. I caught that you said you did this late at night around homework and scouts things, so I don’t want to be too harsh. It would be great to see something more planned next time.

    It might be better to start with a new game and talk through building up a network rather than taking an existing game and spending so long talking about the issues with making money from freight. I skipped forward and noted you talked a little about building, but it could do with being up front.

    I did like that you mentioned a couple of the key differences between this and TTD/CiM2 in that stations don’t have fixed catchment areas and that the steady rise of car ownership will change how things work out later in the game.

    You really need to turn off the in-game music. It’s a constant, irritating distraction and makes it very difficult to hear what you’re saying.

    Nice. A couple of questions on stations:

    – One of the vids made it look like stations had to be either for passengers or freight. Is that the case – can a station only handle one or the other?

    – Can a station be expanded once placed (longer or additional tracks)?

    – Can goods or passengers be unloaded at a station for transfer to another line?

    @jm764 – thanks for confirming.

    So two trains won’t share the same block without signals, and sharing routes with intervals is only for roads (other than path signals of course)?

    Wow, looking very nice. I like the bus station layout in the first shot and the hill in the background in the last one. I was hoping we’d got lots of real hilly terrain to challenge good rail layouts.

    Awesome news Mikael, glad to see you’re hard at work on the game but also recognise that the community can help market the game for you.

    If this game isn’t a huge success it will be a travesty.

    I really want this game to be a success, but there’s so little marketing it’s unreal. NDA closed beta, no previews, virtually no social media. It’s like a game launch from 1995. The game might as well not exist for most potential purchasers – there’s hardly any hype around it at all.

    Why spend years making a game and spend so little effort actually getting people excited enough to actually buy it?

    Darn I wish I could speak German, there looks to be lots of information in these and the layouts are more advanced than anything we’ve seen to date 🙁

    At 7:28 in one of the videos he seems to be saying that the graphics show the signal at green when it’s actually red. I hope that’s fixed in the release version if that’s the case!

    They also said that there would be more information about signalling but that’s not come out either.

    There are some questions I’d love to ask you about the beta, but I don’t want you to break the NDA so I’ll wait and see.
