Alex, is there any way I can get in touch with omich ? It’s about making the TF converter and model viewer available again. I have the files, but want to know whether he’d allow me to upload them somewhere, as they are very much usable still!

I tried signing up on your Russian forum, but for some reason I cannot sign in.

Please contact me if you see this, on post at olahaldor . net

I just arrived at school. It will be hard to concentrate too. 😉

I find it hard to follow up on the comments on the front page news story about the coming announcement, because people are commenting other comments etc, and it’s hard to keep track of when something was posted when it’s littered all over the place.

What if we continue the discussion here?

I get your point. But I think you’ll get more response posting this on the train-fever.net forums to be honest. That’s where the modders hang.

That said, I also get why people aren’t making mods of American trains. There’s hardly any american modders as far as I know. If they exist, they’ve yet to post anything or make themselves visible to the rest of us. The game in general seems to have way more interest in Europe, thus why you’re seeing mostly European material.

I can only speak for myself, but I’m not interested in making any mods except what I know from Norway as that’s my home country. And I’m quite sure most of the modders are the same. They want to make mods they can relate to, just like you can relate best to American stuff. That’s terrible news for you obviously. And I’m sorry there’s no american modders. And if there are, it’s too bad they’re not publishing their work.

Making just one simple mod can take tens of hours. Finding blueprints, measurements and other information, reference photos, modeling and texturing. And the last bit, getting the mod into the game… I spent close to 50-60 hours alone on just a single locomotive last summer. So of course I want to make something I’d like to see in-game and not do mods I would never use myself.

The exception is I made the Zephyr for the USA DLC. I thought of it as a challenge and I was really looking forward to the DLC in general.

It all comes down to how much time a modder want to invest in time. Since we’re not allowed to sell mods, it’s harder to justify so many hours gone to ‘nothing’ but the pleasure of others.

Oh by the way; please Urban, make use of PBR. It’s quite honestly a big challenge to play with the spec/gloss shader in your engine. A conversion from PBR to spec/gloss is usually straight forward, but we’re many who’s been fighting the textures a lot when we’re implementing it in Train Fever.

The DLC isn’t complete yet, and it’s being made on the spare time of those who contribute their mods to the DLC.

Little or no information may be available for trains that early, that fit the scenario of being used in the Nordic countries, thus there’s only one choice right now. This will hopefully change in the future. When? I don’t know. I’m not the one making the steam engines.

I understand it’s frustrating, but at the same time; one mod take tens of hours to make. Those who make the mods will obviously make whatever they feel like doing, with whatever information they have access to.

By all means, great effort making their first game on their own engine. However, I’m all in favor for a production proven engine such as Unity, or Unreal.

I’d love to see what Train Fever could be with an engine such as the two in question. Especially Unreal because of the graphics.

I can only imagine what entire forests with trees, bushes and ferns would look like, using something like SpeedTree which react to wind and trains passing by. Details. But very appealing details. SpeedTree plugs directly in Unity and Unreal. Bring it on!!

I’m not favoring one engine over another, as long as modding support will come first hand from the developers. I love the effort the modders have done to make it possible for the rest of us who don’t know programming, to make mods. But it’s always been sort of a guessing game or jumping through hoops just to make the mesh alone import perfectly. Endless hours of trial and error have gone by just to get a working mod going. I’d like to skip half of that time of failure, and rather be productive!

I think you’d have to wait for the creator of the cost mod to adapt to the new mod system. And I think you’ll more likely get a response if you post on the .net forum in terms of mods.

I can’t believe UG is encouraged to continue development with so much anger.

You need to download the updated version On train-fever.net – as I have adapted my mod to the USA DLC patch. Then it will appear in the mod list in the game menu.

The creators of mods need to update their mods to support the new way TF handles mods.

I’ve already updated my NSB Stadler Flirt mod. Feel free to download it and have a look at what’s needed.

There’s an upcoming update for the TFModManager on tf.net which will do some automatic ‘conversion’ from the old system to the new. Don’t know when it comes though.
