What ‘I’ think of Train Fever doesnt need a wall of text.

It’s a GREAT concept that has been badly managed and spoilt by its own developer. A wasted opportunity.

Sorry but simply not true, Diamond Crossings ARE used extensively in Europe and are certainly NOT as you describe “crossings with traffic lights” !!

Example 1, a complicated Diamon Crossing junction outside Newcastle Station inthe UK,

    https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CHt1aEXXAAAHDxl.jpg

That is an extreme and very complicated example, here is a more common example which you will find in EVERY rail network in Europe at some point, I guarantee it,

    http://www.deathbyhealthandsafety.co.uk/safetyvalve/cheshunt.html

That page had several different views of a junction near Cheshunt in the UK and you can clearly see how usefull the diamond crossing is. The very name comes from the Diamond shape it makes when the first line crosses over the second to enable the lines to branch from each other. Basically, ANY double track line that wants to split into two double tracks MUST USE A DIAMOND CROSSING!! So sorry, to say they are not common in Europe is just plain wrong.

Tips for growing towns, 1. make sure they have a bus or tram network and 2, build some extra roads for them to spread onto. Try to expand so the station is in the center, alot just stick it on the side and give no way of crossing the line, make crossings and / bridges so that the town can have twice as much close to the station.

I can’t answer the road cargo side accurately as they have recently buggered up road freight, making it impossible to carry items both ways but generally you need to keep an eye on the production levels in the resource and factory/refinery, if they are not increasing, add an extra truck to get the volume up and also remember that upgrading roads en-route will increase the trucks speed which will encourage more usage as well.

Dont be an idiot, you know damn well there is a rather large difference between some oil barrels on a FLAT BED PICKUP TRUCK than a dedicated tanker!!!

+1. I havent played TF for a while and returned to give it another try after the new patch, this just goes to show that the devs are smoking something that is probably illegal. Tell me why a flatbed truck carrying some goods cant drop that off and pick up a barrel of oil?

Its a nice looking model of a train, not some kind of ‘cheat’! Anyway, anyone with a text editor can EASILY open any of the vehicles LUA files and change what they want, running costs, capacity, anything. Seems we have another addition that hasnt been thought through properly. Either I loose any achievements, therby taking away any of the fun goals that its possible to play towards, or I resign myself to never improving the look of the game with great 3rd part models like the one I mentioned. Nice one….

A thought that occurs to me is that since the USA DLC it’s possible to set a theme to a game, so there is no reason that a ‘UK DLC’ would not work, reversed track, roads and specialised UK vehicles for road use.

However, as it seems the Devs have long since given up on this game, its very unlikely.

Its all about trial and error, you can actually get straight roads / rails quite easily, you just have to be careful to pull out the way initial section perfectly in line from the last section. If you want to guarantee a perfectly straight section, don’t draw it from another section, do it separate and then connect the two once its been laid.

What about trams and buses, would they be reversed as well? Otherwise, the doors would be on the wrong side.

I assume you mean the class 43 for the Intercity 125 and class 91 for the 225. It would indeed be cool to have these but I don’t think you’ll ever see an official Eurostar, they are very strict with their brand, even Train Simulator can’t get a license to use them.

Well, ive not been on here for a while and it’s amusing to see this thread is still active. There seems to be a couple of people who had the intelligence to understand what I was trying to say but the rest of you should learn how to read AND comprehend what’s being said.

Does the fact that this is Urban Games first release make it ok to lie about their product and basically take my hard earned money with deception? I would never have paid for it if I’d have known it was unfinished and early access, which it IS.

Does the fact that youre a small developer make it ok to give shoody customer service? Surely the reverse is true, my original point was EA can afford to fuck people about, Urban Games CANT, yet they still do.

Do you think its ok that a game needs a patch at least once a month, maybe more over SIX MONTHS after release? This will eventually KILL the mod scene, the very thing that niche products like this need to keep interest, as more and more modders get sick of having to constantly re-release their work to accommodate yet another game change.

If you have answered ‘yes’ to any of those three questions then I wish you well and there’s obviously no point in wasting any more time discussing the issue.

To those that answered ‘no’, then you shouldn’t look at threads like this as a personal attack, like a lot of you deem to do but as an attempt by a Train Fever fan (yes, that’s me, I love the game, or I wouldn’t give a shit would I?) to TRY and get the Developer to notice and pull their fucking finger out!

Customer service costs FUCK ALL. Be nice to see anyone form UG in here, their OWN forum now and then, is that too much to ask? It’s people who let them get away with stuff like that and who openly defend a BROKEN AND INCRECTLY LABLED PRODUCT that encourage all the shit in the gaming industry today. One day you sheep will wake up and realise you’ve been made a mug of and you’ll only have yourself to blame.

It does NOT take money and a large publisher to have good public relations and customer support. If you don’t believe me, take a look at EA!

WHEN was the last time you saw a member of UG help anyone on here? Colossal order is a team of NINE people, don’t believe all the hype, just because youre small, doesn’t give you an excuse to STEAL MONEY by selling a game as a finished product when you KNOW its still basically early access. I could forgive UG that if they at least TRIED to appear as if they gave a shit, but they don’t. All we get is half assed attempts at patches and a DLC that was mostly made by outside people to keep the sheep happy.

Six months + since launch and this game STILL runs like shit, is full of bugs and has no support. Colossal order managed to release a game that is silky smooth and only has a few minor bugs from day 1. I have a city of over 130,000 people running on my PC without a SINGLE stutter, EVER (and I mean, EVER) with at least 30fps all the time. TF barely runs now with 10,000 people and stops every month to update as well as a full 10sec pause every year to save. In 2015 this is shockingly bad. I paid my money, a similar amount to what Skylines cost, so I expect either the game ot work AS ADVERTISED or at the very least, some support from the devs. I get neither. All it takes is ONE person to sit down once a week, and help a few people on the forum, but what do we get? SILENCE. That has nothing to with being a small developer, that is because they couldn’t give a shit because they have our money. Those that don’t agree, please pay me money for doing fuck all as well please, oh and don’t whine when I retire on the proceeds.

LMAO, I see the art of not being able to read and jumping to conclusions hasn’t faded in the past week.

Let me be clear, I NEVER compared the two games, I’m comparing the way they were developed and launched. They are NOT in direct competition with each other, one is a city builder, the other a transport system/model trainset sim. However, they are similar enough to be of interest to the average Train Fever player, hence my original post.

It’s a simple fact that Cities Skylines has had a HUGELY successful launch with extremely high reviews from professional sources and customers alike.  I have been playing this like a *******er over the past 7 days and can tell you from first hand experience, (NOT SOME TF FANBOY like some of the comments here who are downright stupid enough to think it’s CIM with citybuilding), that is is a superb game, feeling polished and well thought out. Is it perfect? No, there are a few bugs but even if it was never patched, it would still be playable and enjoyable.

So, to clear this up, NO it isn’t CIM3, its a totally diffent and brand new game engine for one so anyone who says its a ‘warmed up CIM2’ is an idiot. It’s basically what SimCity 2013 should have been and quite simply, the best citysim since Simcity4 back in the early 2000s.

Anyway, my original post was aimed squarely at Urban Games, to tell them that they could learn a lot about customer relations, game development and launch. Colossal Order and Parradox have handled it superbly, other developers / publishers who don’t take notice, do so at their peril.

I would never compare these two games directly, to do so would insult Cities Skylines. Nuff Said.
