This might have happened when you upgraded a street. Sometimes it causes the vehicles on the street to jump to nearby streets. You could try connecting the isolated track to the real tramline so that the tram can return to its own path.

I don’t think the 20 minutes rule is that restrictive. You can actually cover quite a lot of ground within 20 minutes in game even with the slowest of trains. However, cargo should be less sensitive to waiting times and disruptions to make train transport easier.

As it is now, even a small delay in the train traffic can cause the line to become unused and the factory production will reset to zero and the cargo lines will be left with nothing to transport for a long time. This causes huge deficits from the operating costs.

Doing a sequel is a bad idea the moment. Train fever is very much salvageable but a lot of improvements are in order, the list by crossmr would be a good start. These things can be fixed in a patch, no need to build a completely new game for it.

The thing is, games like Train Fever probably never will have the kind of massive popularity like RTW2 or other major releases but it has potential for a very long lasting playability (just look at OpenTTD or more recently, Cities in Motion 1, they are both still popular). This can help to generate sales (from both the main game and possible DLCs) for years to come if the game is patched to a level where it’s worth buying and playing.

This all sounds very good. I’ll be happy to try out the mod when it’s ready for testing.

    Hi uzurpator,

I’m glad to hear about the progress on the mod. I like the changes you are proposing so far. Have you considered also increasing the top speed of the passenger cars to make the A4 a better choice in early 20th century?

    – there are not enough trains to split them into ‘electrified’ and ‘not electified’ categories, forcing the player to electrify. For example there are periods in the game where only one ‘non electric’ train is available. And it is LNER A4…

This problem might also be fixed by tweaking the locomotive availability. For example make the later steam locomotives (like Class 75.4 and A 3/5) available a bit longer and give the first diesel engines a bit (5- 10 years) earlier.

The choice between electrification or no electrification is a nice strategic choice for the player but I agree that the interface is clumsy and it ends up being a lot of work. I always find there are small pieces of track that are left without catenary lines and I end up spending a lot of time hunting them.

Interestingly, the developers often reply to topics about technical problems in the support forum (exactly as they should). So they do read this forum regularly.

Sure, the small size and lack of experience of Urban games are no excuses to not to fix the game but it’s good to keep them in mind when setting your own expectations.

There are not so many transport/sim games released so I’d really like to see TF succeed and thrive. I’ve bought the game to give it some support even though I knew it wasn’t fully finished yet. Always happy to support an independent game developer rather than €A or some other giant corporation.

I don’t understand why the tracks can’t be upgraded when a train is on them in the first place. You can upgrade roads if there is a vehicle on them.

The only thing I can complain about is Urban Game’s involvement in the game community ( or lack thereof ):/

It would be nice, but… if the are focusing on development, I guess I would rather that.

I would be happy with a weekly update about what they are working on at the moment and what we can expect in the next patch. Doesn’t have to be a Dev Diary or anything fancy.

Yeah, we should cut some slack to the developers. I’m quite sure they haven’t gone through all the effort to make this game just to scam us out of our hard earned money. There are far easier ways to do it.

This kind of simulation games are rare nowadays and very few major studios like to release them (which might be for the better… or should I mention SimCity?). This is the first game released by Urban Games so it’s unreasonable to expect that they get everything right the first time. A larger game studio would have had much more resources for beta testing and fixing those small important details.

I also agree that there are lot of things that need improving in TF at the moment and it might have been more appropriate to release it as an early access game in Steam. Anyway, it would be nice to hear something from the developers themselves more regularly. Some information about what they are working with at the moment and when we can expect new patches etc.

I’ve had a lot of success with passenger trains that connect multiple cities combined with local bus or tram traffic in each city.

I normally start by connecting 3 cities (in 1850 start) with double track. You need to buy multiple trains to keep the frequency down. The first trains are so slow that the frequency needs to be high to keep the total travel time low. As the train speeds and passenger capacity goes up, I add more cities to the line, going up to 5. This you can do when you get the first 100 km/h train. Also you can afford to have a bit lower frequency as you get faster trains because the total travel time remains the same.

I’ll try to make a guide with screenshots some day this week 🙂

I only half agree with you on this because if I was well entertained for those 2 months, I wouldn’t have written this because constant problems in a computer game is not entertaining to me..

I agree that the devs owe it to us customers to fix the bugs and make the very reasonable UI and gameplay adjustments (such as auto replacement of vehicles) that many people have requested here. But all in all I think it’s normal to lose interest in a game within couple of months.

As for the DLC I’d be ok with paying for things that add new content and mechanisms to the game. After all the developers deserve to be paid for their work as well. I just wish they would communicate with us a bit more about their plans for TF.

The passengers can take more than 1 train for the same trip, however at every line change they will also add the waiting time to the total trip time. I’ve had most success with the config 1. It allows you to put all your trains to the same line which keeps the frequency low enough for the people to use also the local traffic in the towns. I try to keep the main train line frequency at 5 minutes or less and the local transport frequency at less than 2.5 mins.

Paying $35 for 2 months of entertainment seems very cheap to me. If you compare it to a movie ticket that costs 12 € for a couple of hours of fun.

Anyway I think there is not enough demand for goods in this game which makes it very difficult to make a profit with the cargo trains. Passengers are much better balanced.
