So I really want to buy this amazing game but my PC is a bit old. Here are my specs:
Pentium Dual Core E5300 overclocked to 3.00GHz. ( stock is 2.6 GHz)
3 GB RAM
ATI Radeon HD 4650 1GB (on http://www.game-debate.com it says that supports Open Gl 3.0 and i wonder if it will raise it to 3.2 if i install the latest drivers)
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium x86

You should be able to run a small map without much problems and MAYBE a medium map but I highly doubt you’d be able to run a large map. I have a quad core with a 2 gig ram GeForce and it runs like crap. I’m sorry I wasted my money on it. Even if it did run better, the game sux and needs work unless you like running trains with only 2-4 cars on them. There are way too many industries spread out all over and there’s no way to use long trains with a large load on them. You CAN run longer trains but don’t even think about waiting for full load because the indusgtries you’re using will stop producing.
The game looks good but that’s about it. I’m one that’s disappointed with it and hope they make it better so I don’t feel like I waste my money.
First of, how many cores you have has no impact on the game, as the game doesn’t use more than one (maybe a second get’s used a tiny bit, but not really). Your CPU should be acceptable, but it is technically below the minimum requirement (Core 2 Duo were released in 09, your CPU hit the market in 08). The FSB speed for example is noticeably lower on yours, which has implications for memory speed and such.
The GPU is also slower than the one specified. The 3850 is between 1.6 and 2 times faster than yours (4650). It’s beaten in almost every category (memory speed/rate/bus-width, number of shaders, pixel fill rate). I’d say you do have a chance with the game since you have 1 GB of memory on the card, but you might get very low fps. The game currently has performance problems even with much more advanced systems (I have a card roughly 5x as fast as yours, a HD 6870, and some things cause my framerate to drop to about 10 with basically minimal settings).
I would not advise buying it yet, but waiting for the performance to be fixed (if it ever is), then it’s probably playable for you (even though it may not bet fantastic, it should then be playable).
I highly doubt you will have much fun with it as soon as people start driving cars…
For comparison: I have an A10-7850K with 16gig RAM.
Currently the year is 1920 on my first (medium) map with most cities connected and bus and truck lines everywhere. After loading you need to look around at the map … obviously it has to load some stuff for the first time doing it. The fps will rise to an OKAY-ish level. For me it is never fluid but sufficient. My system is low end but definetly more powerful than yours.
@JSchultz: I have 2 trains with 10 wagons each connected to 4 industries in a row (coal, ore and 2 of the product city). Trucks transport the goods to the near city. You are doing it wrong.
