performance – Train Fever Official Website (archived) Sun, 21 Jun 2015 18:52:51 +0000 en-US hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=6.7.2 Performance of Main Menu /forums/topic/performance-of-main-menu/ Sun, 21 Jun 2015 18:52:51 +0000 /forums/topic/performance-of-main-menu/ Continue reading ]]> We all know that Train Fever has some performance issues. Still.

Today I noticed something weird. The Main Menu-screen (the one with New Game, Load Game, etc. and the picture of the green locomotive) consumes 25% of my CPU. Since I have a 4-core CPU, that is a 100% of one core!

How can this be? What is this screen doing other than waiting for my choise? Is it an inifite polling-loop? Every developer should know that a polling-loop is not very effient.

Somehow the other performance issues start to make sense. If the developer cannot even make this screen run efficient, how can they make the game efficient?

(Does anyone else have this “bug”)?

req: Graphics options – visibility range and LOD /forums/topic/req-graphics-options-visibility-range-and-lod/ Fri, 10 Oct 2014 09:28:06 +0000 /forums/topic/req-graphics-options-visibility-range-and-lod/ Continue reading ]]> as you need to update LOD system of your buildings there should be graphics option for visibility range – or distance fog…

just becouse rendering such of objects maybe a little problem for most not top end pc

i tried to focus on your LOD while zooming in and out and for example objects like satelite TV antena in that count in big city … it needs to change whole LOD not just vanish some small objects, or at least desrease rendering distance for that small parts of objets

also it seams that game engine does render buildings even they are hiden behind hill…

req: Multithreading – performance issu large map /forums/topic/req-multithreading-performance-issu-large-map/ Fri, 10 Oct 2014 09:12:31 +0000 /forums/topic/req-multithreading-performance-issu-large-map/ Continue reading ]]> game needs completely new multithreading rewrite of core

there were massive freezing every new month, since last updated it comes sometimes about 17th, but still, game is almost unusable related perhaps to traffic jams in cities or just big cities expanding and recalculating routes in same time in same cpu core…

same performance issue can be reproduced while building, buldozering, after each operation game freeze for seconds (up to 30s) so even if game is paused, slow recalculating after each change in infrastructure (roads/trains) making game totaly unusable

i have i4790 with 16G ram. (win/linux/mac – same performance issue) and only one core is in use, thats cleary first step what you should do – multithreading

Have performance issues been fixed? /forums/topic/have-performance-issues-been-fixed/ Wed, 27 Aug 2014 19:55:00 +0000 /forums/topic/have-performance-issues-been-fixed/ Continue reading ]]> A lot of beta previews show some pretty bad performance issues, even on high end machines. I’ve seen skipped frames, a few screen tears, and low FPS when zoomed out. I am very interested in the game, but I have a hard time convincing myself to buy the game given these issues.

Does anyone know if these graphical issues have been resolved?

Suggestion: Multicore support /forums/topic/suggestion-multicore-support/ Mon, 09 Jun 2014 00:17:28 +0000 /forums/topic/suggestion-multicore-support/ Continue reading ]]> I just discovered this upcoming game and this gives me hope about a possible successor of Transport Tycoon… !? 🙂

Long story short: Please don’t forget about multicore CPUs.

Similar games bleeding out after some days of gameplay, because using single core/thread only, just like Cities in Motion did or Transport Tycoon DID (…in it’s time, at 90’s)

Thanks in advance!

ps.: It looks a really promising concept. All of my hopes in you, guys 🙂
