We wanted to let you know that it’s very important for us that you can play the game without any problems. Since you have supported us by buying the game we feel responsible for addressing your issues with care.

Please find below a list of the most common support issues with a hint on how to solve it.

    1. The game crashes at startup or during initialization of a new game

With a very high probability this problem can be solved by installing the latest graphics card drivers. We had this issue during the beta test phase multiple times and to our knowledge all these crashes were solved after installing the latest drivers.

    2. You are using a laptop and the game does not work

If you are using a laptop with two graphics cards, make sure that you select the dedicated / more powerful card as the primary device in the graphics card settings. It’s a very common problem that the less powerful graphics card is set as the primary device and as a consequences, games do not run.

    3. You see black terrain textures (Intel GPUs)

We know that on laptops with Intel HD 4000 graphics adapters terrain textures are sometimes rendered in black. A driver update may solve this issue. However, please note that Intel graphics cards do not fulfil the minimal system requirements. We are working on improving support for Intel cards.

    4. You see black textures

It is known that 3rd party software like the Raptr Software or the Gaming Evolved App (which both ship with AMD´s Software) or xSplit Gamecaster can cause this kind of problems. Deactivate them before starting the game.

    5. The main menu is not or only partially visible after changing the resolution

Press ALT-ENTER in order to switch from full screen to window mode. The window mode will then correctly display the main menu and you can adjust the settings again.

    6. The mouse movement in Train Fever is restricted / the mouse cannot be moved everywhere

Try to disable the automatic DPI-scaling at high resolutions. Close Train Fever and navigate to the Train Fever directory in the Windows Explorer (or right click on Train Fever in the Steam library and under local files click “browse” local files to get there). Right click TrainFever.exe, select properties and under the compatibility tab you can check “Disable display scaling on high DPI settings.”.

Under Windows 10 also try to set the Size of Text, Apps and other Elements to 100%. This setting can be found under System -> Screen.

    7. The main menu is gray and nothing is clickable

This happens when you are signed on to your Steam client, but there is no longer a internet connection available. To solve this problem either restore the internet connection or launch Steam in offline mode before starting the game

    8. You cannot install Train Fever on Steam

This is most likely an anti-virus software problem. We experienced problems especially with McAfee and AVG anti-virus software. You need to disable the anti-virus software during installation. In some cases it’s also needed to disable the anti-virus software for starting the game.

    9. When starting the game you see a message box with title “OpenGL context creation failed”

In this case your graphics card or driver does not meet the minimal system requirements (support for OpenGL 3.2 is needed). If your graphics card meets the minimal system requirements, installing the latest graphics card drivers will solve this issue.

    10. You can no longer load a savegame which used a mod at some point, that is inactive in the savegame, but no longer exists on your system

This is an expected behavior. Information about the mods remain in the savegame. In order to load that savegame, you have to reinstall the mods used in the savegame.

    11. Where to find the crash logs, save games & settings file?

You’re able to find the files in the Steam userdata folder, for example:

    Windows:

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\<user-number>\304730\local

    Mac:

    ~/Library/Application Support/Steam/userdata/<user-number>/304730/local

    Linux:

    ~/.local/share/Steam/userdata/<user-number>/304730/local

In this folder you can find the settings.lua file, the save games are located in the save folder.

The crash logs are located in the crash_dump folder and consist of 3 important files: the stderr.txt, the stdout.txt and if Train Fever crashed at least one file ending with .dmp. If you send us crash logs manually, please make sure to include the latest .dmp. Please find our email address in the About/Urban Games section.

If you experience different issues or if you cannot solve an issue mentioned above with the given hints, please first search for similar discussions here in the support section. If there is no similar discussion, you are of course invited to start a new discussion and we do our best to help you.
