I would suggest just having 2 trains, if your collecting passengers and your getting fall loads on the 2 trains then add another, same with good.
I have a line going back and forth to 2 towns and only use 2 trains they both stop at each station at the same time and seems to work well.

I would agree with your comments, Though I have not really had problems with goods via trains, I have noticed that, Example if you have a ore train running to a steel mill, If you transport the goods to many towns from that steel mill you make profit. At the moment though for some reason if you transport via train to a town not far from your steel mill you make no profit, and suggest you transport those via truck, so on. Though if you are transporting the good over longer distances you can make great profit.
I currently normally have 1 steel mill sending good to 5 towns via trains and make up to 1 mil profit per year on some of the lines 500 k on others. But the close town I send them by horse and cart or trucks.

I’m not sure it has anything to do with the 20 min rule, and has been happening for a while, lets say over the last 2 patches it has been the same. I started a new map today and had trains running every 8 mins with a passenger max of 42. At a station I would get 42/42 passengers by the middle of the track, I was down to 36/42 passengers. They keep jumping off for some reason, or losing count.
As said this has been going on for a while but I’ve not long signed up to these forums to make a post about it.
