could you try to make a single line section with a passing loop in the middle that splits up at both ends into two lines each with stations at the end so that you can create 2 lines that share the same single line section. then have lots of trains driving towards that passing loop and then check how they behave using different forms of signalling including realistic signalling as i have shown on the first page of this thread and then make a video of this?

that would be absolutely awesome and extremely interesting for those interested in rail operations who don’t have the beta!

oh i wish i had signed up for the beta, the tension is killing me! 😀

the problem is that pretty much everyone who does these videos has just started a new game so their networks are pretty limited. they also happen to build isolated lines instead of proper rail networks and they have a habit of building way too many bus and truck lines for a game thats called train fever…

if those people were more interested in real life train operations i think their videos would be more interesting.

there is a guy on twitch streaming gameplay without comments who builds massive networks, you can rewatch those streams here: http://www.twitch.tv/zuerihb/profile/past_broadcasts

sadly those saved videos of past streams on twitch are seriously lagging for me.

you can have as much locomotives as you want in any place of the train. you can also mix steam, diesel and electric engines. train length also doesn’t seem to be limited, i’ve seen trains three times as long as stations.

    you can see this here:

have you actually tried that out in train fever? because if that happens they should improve the signalling so that a train is only allowed on the single line section if it is clear till the next passing loop.

oh damnit i would love to experiment with this…all the waiting is becoming unbearable. 😉

    hi,

i’m wondering why you recommend to place signals at the beginning of a passing loop?!
usually “entry” signals would be placed before the passing loop and “exit” signals at the end of the passing loop tracks.

would that conflict with the signalling logic of train fever? i see a lot of people placing signals this way in lets play videos, often causing trains to stop in places where they shouldn’t stop and thus blocking switches.

i would like to know what happens if you would signal a passing loop/station realistically like this example:

    cheers

don’t forget that TF does not have any pre-built maps, but instead the maps are procedurally created. that means that all the map data has to be stored inside the save files, so the savegames need to be fairly large.

hey guys and thanks for your interesting insights!

from what i see in the videos the trains always drive on the right track of double track lines. has anybody observed what happens if you have 3 or 4 tracks?

by the way, from what i gather from the videos there is not just the mining industry. there is also oil and wood, which is not much but at least they did include freight, which was not even planned in the beginning. they only did this after the community asked for it and despite that they created a really nice framework for freight i think.

i’m also very interested in a broad range of freight transport, but at this stage i think there are much more important areas that should be improved or extended.

    hi,

keep in mind that train fever isn’t exactly a mainstream game and is created by 2,5 people. besides the industries there are also a lot of other areas where people would like to see more standard content and options, but with their very limited manpower they simply can’t fullfil everyones wishes. creating an additional industry takes as probably much time as creating and additional locomotive because you have to create the 3d model for it as well.

i think the devs choose exactly the right approach because while additional content can easily be created by the community itself with mods, gameplay functionality can usually not be changed as easily.
thus the devs should definately focus on extending functionality, while the community provides additional content.

thats an area where a lot of other games like cim2 went totally wrong, because no developer can supply ernough content to make everybody happy, because there are so many different locomotives that no matter how many you create, there will still be people who miss their favourite one.

i’m looking very much forward to creating new industrial branches if that will be possible.
