    @theuros:

    1. No difference.

    2. I don’t think there is any difference. Unlike Transport Tycoon, there is not even a penalty for train departure time. It simply looks awkward when the train doesn’t fit into the station and head of the train may disappear if there is no track further from the station.

    3. Feeding goods stimulates town growth as well as providing Intercity passenger transports. Building any station/stop in the town may boom new town building in the nearby land but the effect is only one-off.

    4. It will not be 50/50. From my observation, the factory with lower production will further diminish its production rate to give way for the higher production factory. I don’t think the service frequencies are factored in this “competition”. So it’s still better to transport goods from 1 factory instead of 2 or more, especially for cargo railway due to its high running cost. You can have 1 cargo train to serve 2 towns from 1 factory for maximum loading capacity (factory A -> town A -> factory A -> town B ->loop), so it’s 1 locomotive instead of 2 with literally the same total amount of wagons, as long as you don’t break the 20 min rule.

    @DK115: Yes you need to connect to a town for delivering the goods the Steel Factory produces to the town. Also remember the coal/ore wagon doesn’t carry goods, so you will need to attach another goods wagon to your train, otherwise the factory will say there is no line usage, meaning no goods loaded to your platform.

    Positive to the line overview which erroneously includes rail line in the road vehicle only filter.

    Don’t know if the issue about unable to set the train to line due to grouped station has been fixed. Since the line overview bug hasn’t been fixed yet, I assume this is still the case. My guess is that you accidentally clicked the bus stop/terminal while creating train line, this function is supposed to allow you to select a specific side in a  bus/tram stops group when they’re grouped together automatically because you lay the second stop right on the opposite side of the road. If you don’t select a specific stop, the program automatically designate either stop for the line.

    @atpat: The cobra jam at the entrance/exit of bus/tram terminal happened to me as well, so I now only use bus stop to avoid intersection as much as possible.

    “Downgrade” (or upgrade) the road will reset the vehicles on that section. Traffic jam caused by citizens’ cars is the result of insufficient transit service, simply extend your lines and buy more vehicles to reduce service interval should help.

    I feel sorry for your experience but the primary reason is that Train Fever is based on Transport Tycoon/OTTD than Railroad Tycoon (the 2 games are fundamentally different). It’s a shame that you can only build level crossing by laying railroad over exiting road, but not the opposite. I just don’t get where that “upgrade with restaurant, or cargo storage, or waiting rooms” complaint comes from. If these options of expanding the station come from Railroad Tycoon, mod is the only thing could grant your wish, which isn’t a deal breaker IMO.

    I agree the game is incomplete and there is room to improve, but I don’t regret paying for this game and I enjoy the game despite its obvious flaws. I just hope if someday the original developers decide to stop updating the game, they could release the source code so the volunteers can improve the core gameplay like the OTTD community does.

    + 1 to the issue with town building smoke. Even before 1990, the opacity/alpha of those smokes should be reduced to half at least so the buildings don’t look like on fire. Since then the smokes from tall residential/commercial buildings should also be paler by half. The smoke only makes sense in sub-arctic map (even so in the modern day they use radiator to moderate indoor temperature); in a temperate map, the intensity of those smokes just look so wrong aesthetically.

    Unlike Transport Tycoon, vehicles in Train Fever never crash into each other. Road vehicles always stop before the level crossing if any train is going to pass through it.

    However, building a road tunnel or bridge to avoid the railroad is simply better to allow smooth traffic unless that road isn’t used by your vehicles.
