Small road is considered as a ‘city’ road and therefore has an enforced speed limit. Use the cross country roads to connect cities, no matter how they render they will be faster than the corresponding city road.

    +1 to both of those

I’d also like faster un/loading for multi door vehicles to allow the auto-spacing of a train line to work.

it wasn’t modified in the past. I upgraded both parts of that road at the same time.

Sorry I didn’t mean necessarily you, the AI could have done it. But it’s academic anyway since the road is split now.

Regarding 6 lanes, you can try this but without overtaking I’m not sure how much use it is. Can’t use it on existing saved games apparently.

I see what you mean, in the first one the road is split as it’s been modified in the past. The second looks more like a bug.

Personally I like having the 2 sizes but have nothing against being given the option to build either explicitly. Especially since this is a sandbox game.

When crossing rivers try to do it close to 90 degrees, otherwise manually raise the track and start the bridge before the river bank to allow the other track space to adjust the terrain. The circled terrain in the pic has to fit without trying to adjust the bank of the river.

I admit it would be nice if the second rail bridge would automatically offset from the first so that they are staggered if a collision is detected.

Regarding your first point it’s because it’s realistic. IRL when building a multi lane road in the middle nowhere you tend to make the lanes wide. When upgrading existing roads to add more lanes within a city you can’t demolish half of it. Colonial cities are probably a bad example but European cities like London are full of this.

I haven’t had an example of what you describe in #2, have you got a screenshot?

I agree @FX2K, I think one line loading multiple vehicles at a single stop is a bad solution – however I agree that there’s a problem. But the simple solution is to multiply the loading/unloading times. For a train with 20 doors people don’t get on and off one at a time IRL.

If loading/unloading time was fixed then the auto spacing feature would probably work and you should not get in a situation where 2 vehicles from the same line bunch up – if you do then you have too many vehicles on that line.

Another example of why they’re awesome is to split express and commuter lines – typically there would be 4 tracks: outside slow tracks that stop at all stations and inside fast tracks that the express uses that may not even have platforms. Without waypoints you could get this situation where the returning express in this case has to wait for the commuter train. With waypoints you can guarantee that the lines take the appropriate track when they split.

One thing I noticed is that when the bus routes go wonky and busses try to go around the block to stop on the opposite side of the road, what you can do is remove that stop in the Line editor and then instead of adding it back via the grouped label click on the actual bus stop on the side you want it to stop on – doesn’t seem to move after that. With complex bus routes and try to add it all like that from the start – but it can be a pain zooming in and out.

Yeah I noticed that so I stopped using the feature. But then I wondered if it makes the pathfinding for the sims easier i.e. more likely to use 2 bus lines and a train line if they are all connected – effectively one path when calculating the best way from home to wherever.

    Thanks for confirming.
