Next time, don’t build such a long tunnel. Make it shorter and more interesting, let the tracks craw through the mountains.

If you select track building, you suppose to see the tracks glowing. Thus you can see where the tracks going.

@gGeorg: Nonono!!! Do not delete the bus line! Read the guide for instruction on replacing the fleet: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=311812980

The moment you delete the bus line, the peeps will reset their travel pattern and even cancel their destinations, because the system will identify the destination as inaccessible. The new busses take a while, but not 20 minutes to do a full line cycle. Usually 5 or 8 minutes, depend on how long the line is.

@crossmr: What are you trying to achieve here? You telling how bad the product is and so forth, but you don’t provide any constructive to this topic. You derailing the topic of the original poster, and don’t go on about how this game derailed. 😐

Some people don’t grasp this concept for the game to be a simulator kind. They expect it to be some ordinary easy to play tycoon where you make as much money as possible and don’t matter about realism. I see this game as my own model railroad, because I don’t have the money or time to build an actual one. Regarding to town development, the placement of buildings by their type is realistic and acceptable, but the layout is a bit of a problem. Town layouts follow the old style of build anywhere and everywhere in any dimensions possible. I like to see a town or 2 with a more modern layout like grid or triangular style.

Can you build a third track and assign a waypoint on it for the freight train to drive on. I know its not a overtake track, but at least the freight train will not interfere with the passenger train.

Ah, thanks 😀  So now I have some air cleared around frequency.

@Tossi: I see now. I agree on number 1 and 2, but I don’t understand 3. How do you then workout the total travel time? And number 4, you saying the frequency is not based on every stop, but only on a single on, like you said in number 1 and 2.

Can somebody then try to explain how I can use frequency to calculate the total travel time.

If I got the following scenario: I got a circle bus line. There is 6 busses on it and the frequency is 50 seconds.

Can I then take 6×50=300 seconds. So it means my bus will take 300 seconds to fully complete the circle line.

If I got 8 stops on the line and the person gets of at the 3rd stop. Then I can take 300/8=37,5 seconds. Then take 37,5×3=112,5 seconds.

This means the person will take 112,5 seconds to travel from bus stop 1 to bus stop 3?

@TrainInfluenza: I see in the second image the bus frequency is around 66 second. But is it 66 seconds when the bus arrive by stop 1? Or is it 66 seconds travel time between bus stop 1 and 2? I’ve read through the guide and somewhere it was describing a situation where there was 5 trams something and then it told about multiplying the 60 seconds with 5 and you get 300 seconds or 5 minutes.

What I understand the guide try to tell is, you take the number of busses and multiply by the frequency to get the TOTAL travel time. I think this would helped you, because then you could  workout the total travel time with the bus, train and on foot. Thus if my tram take 5 minutes and train 6 minutes, then the total travel time will be around 11 minutes? And another extra 3 minutes of walking? That’s how I understand this, because its impossible for the peep to riding 6o second in the bus, while its going around the whole town.

I think this is how you determine the total travel time of a person. And to the original question, the waiting time is not calculated. If the total travel time is in the frame of 20 minutes, the person will travel with your transportation, despite it will wait a long time at the station.

What I do know is the frequency will be updated every year and if the train is frozen long enough, the frequency will skyrocket at the end of year and thus make the system obsolete.

@crossmr: I’ve found this guide on Steam about collisions, maybe it will help you understand why the bridge prevent you from making a triple track. The video in the guide show what you can do to build a triple track bridge. I especially liked the one where you build the bridge halfway, then further on, build the second alongside, delete the segment and then finish the bridge. Take a look here: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=343929962

@crossmr: If you replace the vehicles, they will eventually auto-space themselves which OpenTTD even can’t. I also had trouble replacing vehicles in OpenTTD, had to find them, sent to any depot and then remove. It was difficult for me to get the vehicles to be auto-replaced and mostly my funds was depleted if I opt them to replace.

Regarding to the guide, I told to read the second paragraph under the title “Instructions on…” to show why the vehicles must be replaced. This is the only image I could find where it says the maintenance accumulated over the years in a percentage form.

I’ve seen Steam is messing with the links, try this one: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=311812980

    Hope it works!

@TrainInfluenza: I’ve checked it out and sorry to say, the guy in the guide is somehow right. I started in 1950 with a Saurer Tuser. Then I created a simple circle line with 6 stops. The single bus started to travel and the system said 50 seconds. Then as the bus stopped by every stop, which is 20 seconds apart from each other, the frequency accumulated. There was 6 bus stops and when the bus fully completed the cycle a few times, the new frequency time was around 130 seconds and then changed to 2 min. I also run a timer on my Nokia cell phone and its said every time 137 seconds when the bus fully complete the 6 station cycle. So, the frequency is based on the 1st station on the line and not the average at every station. Otherwise the frequency was supposed to be 20 seconds, because the bus was stopping every 20 seconds at a stop, right?

Make a simple circle loop in the city, around a block with standard roads, no double roads or streets. Put 4 or 6 bus stops and then run 1 bus around it to see the frequency. You will see it starts low, but then builds up as the bus stops by every station.

I know the frequency for the busses has been patched a few weeks ago, because now the value don’t stay constant and changing rapidly. I’ll also going to check it out now if the frequency is based on a single stop or if its based at every stop.

    Look at this guide: http://steamcommunity.com/app/304730/guides/?browsefilter=trend&requiredtags%5B%5D=Walkthroughs#scrollTop=650

Take note in the second paragraph by “Instructions on how to replace fleet”

I don’t play on a hard difficulty for the sake of my sanity! 😉

I recommend you make it a slow process, but try to make the train frequency lower than the bus to promote the peeps to travel with the train. Then slowly sent one bus for one to the depot over a period of 5 years.

The challenge you got is to get the people from the road to the train. This complicate things, because now your busses has to be rerouted to the station and the train must be superior faster in speed to offset the frequency advantage your busses have.

Try to make a intercity train line, connecting all 4 towns with the train line and put ’bout 4 trains on the line, but it depends how you design your rail network. The signal placement is crucial in this endeavour and also where you want the trains to switch.
