RickDParticipant
A quick note to those who are sitting on the fence about the purchase, I’d say make the jump and buy the game. Yes there are a lot of things that need patching but your purchase shows that you like and support what the developers are doing. Don’t forget the the devs are a 3 man team and not EA Sports. I’m happy with what has been released so far and so long as the devs keep making improvements I think the price of the game is worth it.
RickDParticipantI agree with this and had the same issue in 1907 when a new high speed steam train was released, the previous one was discontinued immediately and the new cost a lot more to purchase and the running cost was 3 times that of the older one. vehicles definitely need more overlap before becoming obsolete
September 9, 2014 at 17:06 in reply to: Single Vehicle(Train or Trucks) Lines & Cargo Vehicle Depots #6524RickDParticipantI’ve not had this personally but I think a good idea would be to have a large truck station with a waiting area that has x amount of lanes, then once there are enough units waiting at the to fill a truck it gets called to the loading area, loads and goes on its way. This would keep the trucks off the road, and any trucks that need to unload can go straight into the station, unload and leave again
RickDParticipantYou’d have to take into account building a passenger and goods station at each industry and having separate line for each. I could see this working if we could have combined stations, one for hard materials and one for workers.
Personally I’m indifferent as to whether this happens or not, yes we want the game to be realistic, but how realistic before it becomes to complicated and not fun to play?

RickDParticipantIt is completely possible to get your industries to produce. One of my oil wells produces 400 units annually. I transport the oil to a refinery via a 10 car train, from there I have 3 goods supply lines to 3 separate cities.
From what I understand its all about supply and demand, and raw material industries have a ‘contract’ with the oil refineries / steel mills etc. So an oil well will not supply more oil than a refinery requires to produce its demand in goods, that means unless you distribute the goods effectively the refinery wont increase production no matter how long your train is or how quickly it delivers the material
This is how i understand it, feel free to correct me if i’m wrong

I was an avid fan of Transport Tycoon and OTTD and have been quite disappointed with the lack of similar games, nothing else seems to have been quite up to the standard of those even though the original TT is around 20 years old now. The level of modding you could do in OTTD was incredible and I really think TF has the potential to be just as good if not better. I definitely don’t mind taking the time to point out what I think the devs could make improvments

RickDParticipantI got the spacing from one of the tutorials and it was road vehicle spacing the beta tester was referring to, I just assumed that it would go across to rail as well. It would be a very handy feature
Along with Azrael, I only use single track lines for very small routes

RickDParticipantQuick bump to see if anyone can comment on this
RickDParticipantConnorboy is right, you need to look at it from a different perspective;
Oil Well A is going to deliver x amount of oil to Factory A because the factory needs that amount, it is going to deliver that amount anyway even without your line (little goods symbols travelling along roads). If your line is faster Oil Well A will use it. Hoewever just because you deliver the oil faster dsoesn’t mean the oil well will produce oil faster, it will only produce more oil if you run cargo lines from the refinery to the towns and the demand from the refinery increases. In my game I have a line delivering oil to a refinery, and 3 lines from that refinery to different cities. Both industries are at the moment producing 200 units per whatever time period they do it over. My oil train carries 80 units at a time and is almost always full, the revenue is almost $1m per trip
RickDParticipantbump, maybe this should be in the general forum
RickDParticipantVery true Lsky, I’ve just seen a lot of posts in this forum since release from people listing all the negatives of the game with not much support for the (3 man) team that made it. Just felt the need to defend them a bit

The issue you are having with cutting deep and then going elevated could be because you are trying to build large sections at once, the game tries to level out the track between your start and finish point the best it can, so it will go deep into a hill and then elevate above a drop. It would be a good idea to have an option for it snap to the terrain rather than build level, but I think the max gradient for tracks is quite realistic and so it should only snap as far as it can before becoming too steep (hope that makes sense).
Try building smaller sections and you should find it sticks to the terrain much better
RickDParticipantI think you just have to deliver the goods they produce consistently over the course of time. I got on eo fmy oil wells to 200
RickDParticipantCompletely understand bansheedragon, it would be nice to see what has changed but there’s a certain way to approach it, I don’t think there’s any need for comments like
‘ I would really like to see Urban Games focus a little bit more on community outreach, and get out of their closed-beta mind set’
I’m sure the devs aren’t just sitting there eating croissants, watching the sales come in. I think people should put themselves in the devs position before posting sometimes, if we keep up a positive community vibe they are more likely to interact with and be open with us
