Bastargre , oh did you see that working? I believe you if you yes, for me so far did not work it out yet… :/ I have a 240m long, 5 tracks platform in my main city and never seen more than 240 people on the station at the same time. It is always stopping aroind 210-220 people. Maybe then later on (I’m in 2020), with more population I will see the number crossed.

Other people in an other topic said that the platform length = people could wait inside.

So, on a 160 meters long platform only 160 people can wait at the same time, even if it has 1 tracks or 5 tracks…  this part of the story sounds a bit strange.

@Cpt.Spaghetti That could be true, yes…  in my case 2 tracks are splitting off from the crowd and going elsewhere, so then I think I should try to build it on that section, there is space there for the pillars. Bad news is that the tracks are not straight, because 4 turns left, 2 turns right… stupid situation. I’ll play with it again and skip trying with the bridge over 6 tracks unless someone already built it and could post a picture how did he do it.

How did you manage to build the bridge over the tracks that the 4 lanes are fit well under the pillars? 🙂 I have trying to do it but it is not something that would like to succeed lol. How did you measure the distance required for the tracks to fit there? As I know you cannot build roads over train tracks. So I guess you had to demolish the train tracks near the bridge, then build the bridge and then re-build the train tracks.

my issue is that I have 6 train lanes there, not just 4 😛 And all the 6 are near each other, there is no space left for the pillar. So I’m wondering if you manage to create the pillars on the way that 4 train tracks fit there, then maybe 6 could be fit as well, with proper planning.

Right… I have realized 2 days ago that if I start bashing the ‘one way’ button on a signal close to the station, then the line-track assignments starts to change and after a couple hits, they reach to a point where all 4 lines are settled for the 4 different tracks. But come on this is crazy business 🙂

Especially if a train is inbound to the station and ‘suddenly’ the assignments changing, then the trains can stuck with each other very easily, if an other train is closing in as well to the same track from the same direction.

Whatever unfortunate situation we have, I have to accept that the only balanced, normal way of working in the game which gives you an unstressed situation is a direct track to the platforms for each lines. Although this limits my options for 5 tracks (OK, a second station can be built), and sometimes not easy to build it because of spacing issues, still looks like the most valid option 🙁

I hoped that someone will tell me a trick how to prevent the game to randomly reassign the lines on the tracks 🙂

Emeg, the reason why people placing exit signals at platform ends is that nothing tells them that the platform itself has a built in signal. Second reason is that it looks like realistic, as we know in the real world there is a signal in front of the platform to let the train know when it can move along.

I would have a question though about this topic but a little different way.

I have a train station with 4 tracks. I have 4 train lines. We all know that you cannot assign a line to a specific platform, so you cannot say in advance that for example line#1 should arrive and leave all the time from platform #1. However, with planning, you can reach out the following situation:
    1)  with line and track planning, only direct routes available for the lines to arrive/leave one specific track only. Trains are phisically unable to select other tracks at the station apart from their ‘assigned’ ones.
    2) you slightly ‘weaken’ the above situation by allowing a train to arrive to two tracks and leave the possibility for the train to select the track it wants.

I know that in situation 2), the train will still use only one track, even that one occupied and other one, which should be also reachable, is free.

    BUT

The game, from a moment to another, when I touch the train lines/signals etc, then it changes the track assignments by its own, for example if I upgrade a train line 300 metres away from the station, or very close to the station (does not matter), the game grabs the lines and randomly reassigns them. This sometimes causes 2 or more lines using the same track!
Is this ‘normal’ in this game? If yes, is there anything to avoid it? Yes I know the only possible solution is the above mentioned situation 1), because in that case nothing can alter the station track usage. But that is not realistic, I would like to keep situation 2), even if the same line will not use 2 tracks.

In life, at a station, a train can go either to track #1, or #2, or #3 or even #4, dependent from the controllers or various situations.

Thanks guys to everyone. Last night I had a deeper look, started a new game and used some logic and now it is working fine, passengers are definitely changing lines.

Read over the online guide, found nothing about this :S (neither the opposite though)

Logically this should be right, the passenger who is able to reach the destination faster with any means of transport rather than walking, should be able to change even 5 times if needed (or even walk from a bus stop to an other, non-groupped nearby bus stop) until we do not exceed the 20 minutes rule.

However I do not see the exact evidence, since I cannot determine that when a bs stop gets waiting passengers, is that happen because of a change, or because of some nearby people arrived to the stop.
