There is very low penalty for reselling bought trains and wagons, which is why I always, ALWAYS sell the lot not just because it isn’t costly but also because in this game, sending a train in depot usually hits your line very badly, because for some reason, as soon as your train is out of the line for 3 seconds, industry thinks that the line is dead for good and starts shipping by road and also downgrading production massively fast. This is why i always try to minimise the train/wagon replacing as much as possible, by going to the depot only when it’s necessary and making sure you upgrade the most in one go, which means I sell all the old at the same time and buy all the new so that i save the line for maybe next 30 years or so … except when trains age very fast which is a problem exactly because leaving line empty to replace the train for just 3 second does chaos in this game.

    @Riche

yes, this game is buggy as f* but not for the reasons you described. You don’t seem to understand this game fully.

-Industries don’t produce if there is no demand. (I think you mean mines, mills and refineries).
-Yes you can have long industrial connection. I have Ore/Coal stations that lift raw materials, drop them in a mill, load goods at that drop-off location and ship them to 2 cities in their respective industrial areas. If I had a city between these lines, I could also arrange the train, or additional trains if needed, to also load passangers if i wanted to or needed to. This is long enough for me.
-Maybe you don’t need 2 oil wells supplying refinery. In this game, production on any level matches 1:1, so if refinery has a production output of 100 and oil well only at 20, the oil well will increase production to match the refinery production. For example. If a steel mill has a production output of 250, I don’t need 3 ore mines connecting with it with their combined output of 250, i will wait for one ore mine to expand untill it meets the steel mill demand.
    -Signals work fine.
    -What “monetry” system?
-People won’t use trains, if using train would take more than 20 minutes including the travel to and from stations. They also don’t use them  if they are slower than car. If you build stations correctly, if you connect the stations, and if people need to travel to other cities, you will see people using trains. If I can do this easily, you can do it too!!!!!!
-Roads-on tracks doesn’t work. It’s annoying i know. But before devs fix this issue, you can delete train track, place the road, and re-build the train track on top of that. Hope it helps.
-Auto renew is also necessery to include. It’s a must addition. This is because lines (especially longer lines) get basically ruined for years before vehicles catch the flow rythm they had before.

    @simonmd

    5. Auto renue. I’m not a fan of this idea, I like the fact the I make the  choice when to upgrade stock or vehicles. What is a pain is the current way of doing it, ie, you loose the goods they are carrying unless you wait the entire trip until they are empty. There should be a ‘return to depot AFTER dropping off goods/passenger’ option.

I think desynchronised vehicle problem after you upgrade the line with new vehicles is a bigger problem than them not returning to depot after dropping of goods.

Vehicle should replace the older vehicle without changing position or carried load. I know it’s not exactly realistic, but it’s less pain in the ass when you have literally a thousand vehicles to replace. It’s just annoying and no use to 99% of players except for those 1% who strive for some sort of unnecessary “tru realism brah!”

There is no 3D competitor of Train fever. At least not the one that focuses on trains/transport. So if you like trains so very much, you might want to swallow the lagging and interface issues, just to see the trains in action doing what they do. Transport goods and passengers. YAAY 😀

I really hope developers work on this game to bring updates, preformance and content-wise.

It’s great that you get to play from 1850 up to today, but the vehicle list is a bit lacking and as i said … i play it because there is no other game like that.

-Even without the people the CPU still have to solve every one citizen’s move. That is the bottleneck.

I’m pretty sure that’s false. I usually get laggs when i zoom into the city, or zoom out far enough for screen to capture 2 cities simultaneously.

If i zoom in any other area, like a train track by the field,  i have stable frames per second, which means that graphic rendering is the issue, not CPU. If CPU was bottlenecking calculation those couple thosand people paths, game would lag regardless of me zooming into the city or zooming into a field, because these calculations have to be run non-stop.

My thought is also confirmed by the “error description”, when I CTD: “graphics rendering timeout limitation error”.

But i’m not sure if it’s the citizents causing these problems. Maybe it’s my busses or cars. Will test this mod to see if it’s any improvement

Hm…. industry doesn’t look the best in Penrith. try following:

Boost Penrith industry by bus lines. When factories upgrade they presumably demand more goods. When more goods are demanded by these factories, presumably more raw resources are demanded. Only then will you see coal mine actually start producing anything.

    if you have steam, try:

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\_________\304730\local\save

    if you have retail, try:

    C:\Program Files (x86)\”installation directory”\save

    I hope this helps 🙂

To some newbies by a newbie.

I too had big financial problems on my first 2 tries. I started building freight/passanger train lines, then  I make huge losses and get bankrupt in less than a decade.

    My third attempt was:starting sloow.

And this made the deal for me. Altough If you have the problem, that no production lines seem to be working then my “idea” will not help you.

    1. Ignore industry for a moment 1st year.

    2. Search for two cities with working production lines nearby. Take a year to track these production lines if you have to. Then focus on improving their nearby city’s transportation system.

So build one or two bus lines in each, by connecting residential homes with industry.
If you make your bus lines right, they should be profitable after a few months to a year.

    3. Now it’s the time to make a save-checkpoint in case something goes wrong.
You will now start searching for simple production lines to fill in. There are only two easy starter options you have in this game:

    a) Oil line

    b) Wood line

I will focus on oil line here.

    4. You will begin by  making 3 cargo stations. One at Oil-Well location, second one at the refinery, and the third one, in industrial section of your closest town. Then make two lines, and assign 5-8 horse carts to each depending on the length of the road between them. If the game generated unnecessarily long routes, take some time, and create shortcuts for your cargo transport.

    5. Keep a close eye on the cargo-stations. If they start stacking too much of resources there, invest in more carts to transport them. If carts are running empty all the time, sell them.

    6. After a few years, this simple industry transport should start making you money, and more importantly, industry in your city should start to grow. Repeat number 4. and 5. near your second city, possibly with a wood-line this time.

    7. Only once you’ve started making healthy income, you start making rail connections and trains. Connect your cities with passanger train first, then when industry starts demanding more and more goods, as a result of your successful road-cargo-network,  you can start building freight network in place of your old industry-lines. Make sure you build a functioning train network first, before deleting your earlier road-network, or you might face production insta-death. (downgrading production down to 0).

    8. Start experimenting with the ore/coal->goods line the same way you started your first freight line. This is the line that gets me the most income. We’re talking several millions here.

    9. As time goes on, your cities should get more and more connected with railways. Always make sure that train stations are connected with your city transportation system.

    10. As years pass, you will notice your city-busses slowly become un-profitable, but if you’ve connected your cities with train network, these trains should start making you millions, which more than cover a few potential losses of your city transportation.

If I play it as I described here, I make enough millions by 1900, that i simply forget money exists in this game, and play easily from then on until the end. it becomes unplayably laggy

I know there are games who also use PNG format instead of JPG (Europa universalis series, victoria series from paradox), and instead of fixing that issue, the developers said they cannot fix it by not ruining the game somehow.

I don’t know, I hope train fever developers will take this issue a bit more seriously and actually fix this if they can. I also have SSD and limited space on it.

I replaced Borsig 1860 with Prussian G3 so it should be better. I’m sure even slower frequency wouldn’t cause production to go down the sink, because even the earliest spanish brotlibahn turned me a profit, before i replaced it with the borsig.

I don’t know, but I think my issue probably isn’t connected to or same as yours. It’s probably some industry demand bug or something else that we don’t know yet.

I use 1 train, but if the production starts hitting over 150 output, i put a second train to relieve the first one.

I connect all lines from raw material, to the city for goods. If i use train or if i use road transport depends on the distance, meaning that if It’s a longer distance i use freight trains, if it’s short distance, i use trucks.

I had a very productive lumber – saw line with train for example, extended to goods line to the city.  But after i replaced the train with a new one, nearby lumber production slooooooowly went to just 1, from above 100 at it’s peak i believe. I don’t know what i did wrong.

Why doesn’t this happen 100% time to me then? I often replace wagons and trains. 50% of the time, material output stays the same. 50% of the time however, production output plummits from 100 to 0 and never goes back up.

it is sometimes laggy, then stops lagging for 30 minutes, then lags again. At least it doesn’t crash, which is the most important for me. I don’t care if it laggs a bit. I’ll get used to it.

I did what you told. It’s playable now. It’s very very  choppy / laggy with fast zoom-ins and fast zoom-outs, but it’s playable! Thanks.

    Thanks for helping me! 🙂

Do you have any hardware update recommendation? Maybe a graphics card that can run this game on medium at least? (resolution 1920×1200) ? Because i don’t have a good feeling in my head, if I play on lowest graphics settings.
