This is one of the dumbest ideas I heard yet.

@Traininfluenza – That was a good find and also a very good test you did. Very good idea. This could be why it takes some trains longer in a station to move out that people dislike.

EDIT: Some love it, some hate it, some are okay with it.

I was on the fence with this game at first. I was giving them the benefit of doubt and waiting to see what they did to fix the problems until I reported my game crashing for the very first time after one of the last updates. I explained what happened how I left the game running without any problems in like 1910, started it in 1900, and went to sleep. When I woke up, the game crashed while I was sleeping so I reported it and Micheal basically said I did something to cause the crash and that I should figure out why it did it. So I’m wondering what I did to make it crash when I was in bed sleeping.

Now I hate it because of that. I could never recommend a game like this to someone else and never will. Any game that has to rely on mods to make it work close to correctly isn’t worth the money they’re asking for it. USER BEWARE!!!

I would not waste your money on this game. I read about the bugs before I bought it and thought,’Well they’re not that bad and it sounds and looks good, so it should be alright’. Boy, was I wrong. I wished I would have waited longer. I don’t even play the game any more cuz it just sucks. It’s been over a month now and now I just come here to see if they fixed anything

The industries are a joke and when you get in the later years, it’s just a terrible gaming experience. The fanboys here will tell you how great it is because you can make mods for the game and all but good mods don’t make up for the wrongs that make it un-enjoyable to play. And I didn’t even mention all the error messages you’ll get when building track and/or roads or anything else

If you’re looking for a sequel to the Transport Tycoon games, I’d suggest you look elsewhere because this isn’t it. The only thing resembling TT are the depots that I can see. This seems more like CimCity gets trains because it surely isn’t Train Fever like the title suggests.

Of course, opinions are like assholes and there are many in this forum which will lead  you to believe how good this game is when it actually blows. You might like running passenger trains tho since it’s not that bad doing that until the lag gets bad. I like cargo trains myself. But in the end, you’ll feel like you have a fever because you’ll get sick of all the problems while playing this game. And YES, it WAS released too soon. I paid $34.00 to beta test this screwed up game.

Good luck on your decision. I hope you’re happy with which one you make….And if you do decide to try it, start reading to figure out how to play it because they have yet to release the game manuals they said that will be released soon after the games release. It’s been 3 months and still no manuals, game or modding.

Oh yeah, play SpinTires instead. It’s a lot more fun driving thru the mud…

The ‘EDIT’ button is up at the top left in the title. Stupid place for it.

I agree but the pillar width is hard coded into the .exe and can’t be changed. Believe me, I tried many things and they were always the same. They don’t work great but when they do, they can be helpful.

    Hey cross, if you want to view the default vehicles in max, you’ll need this;

    Train Fever Converter (BR146)

This is also what you’ll need to convert them back to use in the game. You’ll want to take note of the orientation of the vehicle. That means what direction it faces forward. Most models being made, when looking in the Top down veiwport, have the front of the vehicle facing upwards. This game does it differently. The vehicles I imported were turned to the right. Can’t tell you why.

What you’ll want to do is create a working folder somewhere like in the scenes folder of max. NEVER edit a default vehicle without copying it somewhere first. This will avoid many problems that can arise from mistakes. Also, familiarize yourself with folder structure TF uses and where everything is placed. This will help when you’ve made something so you’ll know where it goes.

Also, you want to open the default vehicle files to see what it contains. This will help you more to learning what the vehicles uses as for textures and how to place the reference to them. I’m sure notepad would be sufficient but I like and use NoteTab Pro. It has more options for me.

There are other things you’ll need to know but for now, this should do. I can’t answer all questions at once. This is pretty much how I learned, by taking apart other models to how they’re done and editing them.

The converter is easy to use. It uses a .bat file to run the commands. This is what I use to convert default vehicles to import into max – TFC_BR146.exe /make “” MESH OBJ. You would place the filename between the quotes. The .msh file holds the info for the vehicle, the .msh.blob is the model itself and can not be edited in notepad.

So for starters, goto the res folder of TF and search for ‘nohab’. This is a rail vehicle and fairly easy to manipulate and will tell you what files is used and where they are. Next, you’ll want to create the same folder structure in your max ‘scenes’ folder to work with. What I do is, after searching for nohab, you should see one folder named nohab and 13 files. I use WinRar and selected all 13 files, not the folder, it will be included anyway, then use winrar to create a .rar to my desktop but you have to make sure that it creates the folder structure. Mine did it automatically but to be sure, before compressing them, goto the files tab and make sure it shows ‘Store Full Path’ under ‘file paths’. If it doesn’t, you’ll want to change it. After they are compressed, find the .rar file you just made and extract them to the scenes folder to work with.

After you extract them goto the model folder and convert the .msh to .obj and import it into max. Once imported, find the train_nohab.tga in the textures folder and apply it to the model. If you don’t know how, for now just drag it over the model and let go. It should place it onto the vehicle and you should see it with the texture applied to it.

Hopefully I didn’t forget anything but this should help you on your way to modelling. Max is a huge program and has many many features to learn. I’ve been using it for a few years now and still haven’t learned it all. I’m self taught as well so I can’t answer all your question but can help with what I’ve learned.

    Good luck…

EDIT If you need specific help with something and I’m not around, you can message me at the German site since this place doesn’t have a way to pm someone. Frickin lame assed forums here. I look here every few days but getting less because I stopped playing this unfinished game that’s in public beta.

As long as it fits, yes. You have to setup a Steam Library folder first, then select that folder when installing it.

Go to the the top left in Steam. Select Steam – Settings – Downloads – Then the STEAM LIBRARY FOLDERS button on the top right. A window will pop up, then select the ADD LIBRARY FOLDER button on the bottom left. Find your drive and give it a name. When you install it, select the folder you just did and you’re good to go.

That’s something you’d have to ask the DEVs, sorry.

I’ve seen this when even closer. Weird when the roads are suppose to flatten the land underneath. If it was because of LODs, all of the road wouldn’t be seen, not just part of it so I don’t believe it’s that. This is menial to me tho and isn’t game breaking. I’ve seen things like this in other games too.

Oh, I know. I don’t even play it any more. I still have the very first game I started  and I just open that,  since it’s all default, from time to time to see the changes made or to check out a mod. Other than that, I haven’t played it since I made the post of losing interest. It’s no fun with all the problems.

EDIT: I’ve been playing a game called Spintires for a couple days now. The way the suspension works is pretty damn cool.

Yeah, tunneling sux in this game as well as other things. I’m guessing you generated a map with hills or you went with flat and still got hills. Another part of this wonderful game that’s not right.

I don’t know if you seen me mention this before but someone on the German site posted about the height map this game uses when generating maps. Since the game is like it is, I try to get as little hills as I can and changing this one little file does the trick.

If you change this file, res\textures\terrain\ridge.tga, to all black, you’ll have flatter maps so less need to build tunnels and long bridges. You have to use something other than paint if you want to do it or just download this one – Gebirgsfreie Landschaften
