I second third and fourth this idea! Also the ability to define ‘No build areas’ to stop the AI from adding roads to make the traffic gridlock even worse. At the moment the only way I’ve found to do this is use a piece or rail or a depot, looks very untidy.

T o cheer myself up I’ve added more drive sounds for when you click on a gridlocked car, no more just ‘”Huh”, but a sneeze, a burp a fart etc.. At least It stops me tearing too much hair out.

Have to test the waypoints yet but, already tested the “improved” traffic flow, it took almost 7 minutes for a city to clog up with cars using bus lanes, spawning in bus lanes and bringing my bus services to a grinding halt – wonderful, think I shall be just playing a quick game after every update to test if it’s playable yet. Meanwhile, there’s always Trainz, A Train etc, might even go back to Sudoku, (I’m not that desperate – yet).

Seriously the traffic is a nightmare, it can’t be that difficult to sort out, I’ve ridden a motorcycle through many major towns and cities in India and the far east, honestly it’s easier than getting a bus to take someone to the station in this game.

That’s it for now, been driven to drink, time to open a nice bottle of malt.

I’m still trying to decide if it helps but…. When the population expanded too much in one town, (I’m worried about inbreeding), I deleted quite a lot of the residential buildings, seemed to help but that might be just my perception. I don’t know what the ratio of cars per head of population is but it often seems as though it’s far more than one per person.

I think combined with your lower population (possibly optional) limit, 1 car per 4 persons should suffice, currently I’m sure they allow 5 year olds to drive hence the strange antics at junctions.

RonMaster, it’s only one city I demolished, so presumably I still have each type of building elsewhere on the map, I’ve carried on playing without a crash, (saved as a test game of course) but, looks like the demolished city is not going to regenerate despite having placed a station and buses. Making more money though with the city gone.

Admiral, thanks, that’s what I normally do, just this one city refused to co-operate with my master plan so it had to go!

I’ll get back to more normal play once I’ve experimented a bit more with this.

There are a few other anomalies in the game, as they are mostly graphical and cosmetic no doubt it will be a while before they are attended to.

I’ve noticed that trucks and buses tend to ride with their wheels below the surface on undulating roads also, road tunnels are not wide enough on the wide country roads so again buses drive partially through the tunnel walls, I don’t mind too much as if I zoom in I can’t see any damage to the paintwork.

Thanks for all the advice folks, I shall start a new small world to experiment with as, I couldn’t force the existing one to play despite following your tips. Wound up deleting all rail links, stuck with buses and trucks, I’m now a billionaire+ but this makes a mockery of the game title ‘Train Fever’.

Might not be making the progress I would like but, with all the help and tips on the forums I’m certainly learning some excellent tricks and workarounds.

Just been experimenting by blowing my hard earned cash. Late game using bus routes town to town, as the inevitable gridlock occurred thought I might as well get radical before starting a new game.

Routes into town are via large country roads with bus lanes, cars behave properly on these. On reaching town I’ve split the roads into two, one medium street no bus lanes, the other a small street with bus lanes, I haven’t completed the full conversion in town yet so there are still problem areas but…. Playing for an hour (real time), not a single car has turned into or spawned on these narrow bus routes. Could this be a temporary work around the gridlock problem? I know it’s expensive but, if done early game whilst traffic is light and railways profitable it should be a bit cheaper to implement.

Might keep things flowing until traffic lights and one way streets appear.

Glad you solved it, I know freeware is crafty in trying to load other stuff, you just have to spot the (pre-ticked) boxes, and untick them to opt out.

Hi, I converted some MP3 files to OGG and they play fine including displaying the artist and title. I used the free converter from Cyberpower (Ver: 9.8.6) http://www.freemp3wmaconverter.com/

I think the present system whilst not being perfect is quite fun, after all we are playing a reasonably priced game here. Many of the suggestions (not just this thread), are excellent but the team would probably need to work  30 hour 10 day weeks to please everyone.

I’m sure they do take on board the suggestions but probably deal with major bugs and performance improvements first, perhaps many of the ideas we put forward may well appear in TF2, if or, when that arrives. At least the replace vehicle popup reminds you that the vehicle exists, I’ve got so many in play that some are forgotten although I have trucks still returning a profit over 100 years old, (hope I can do the same at that age).

Manual vehicle replace at least reflects real life, if my car and motorbike automatically replaced themselves I might wind up with ones I didn’t like.

Thanks for the info. It’s a neat workaround the problem.

Thanks for the response Tossi, one more question on trams, might seem a naïve one but, how do I verify the game files? I can’t find any options in TF or on the Steam pages to do this.
