It’s the lags that are killing me.  The game becomes unplayable.  I hope they are seriously working on that.

I agree.  There is something to what gGeorg is saying.  I have often found myself thinking I want to upgrade this or that in Train Fever and then decide not to because it would be too frustrating and not a fun challenging thing to do.  It often becomes monotonous and repetitive.

I just actually went back to playing Locomotion after a long long time to try to get a sense of why that game was always fun to play.  I think I like it because the industries and transportation needs grow and change and they respond to what you do much better.  In Train Fever the industrial growth is just too slow and non-responsive.  It’s also too repetitive.  There needs to be more industries and more complicated supply chains.  No matter where you go on the map, it’s the same few industries or commodities.

I do like Train Fever and have played it a lot, but would love to see the gameplay become a lot more fun.

Why don’t the developers do this?  Why do we need a mod to make the game run better?  The lags are killing me!

No there are definitely road building bugs.  I have tried to build pretty short level roads and they often for some reason want to be built in a “c” shape.  I can’t get them to build a straight road no matter how I try.

This is my greatest frustration.  You build a track network to serve the industries and you build trains for the transport of their product and you sit there and wait and watch as NOTHING HAPPENS!!!

Now we can buy enormous powerful locomotives (e.g., BigBoy) and watch it pull three gondolas that never fill up and of course the trains lose tons of money and eventually the game just fizzles out because you can’t borrow anymore money and you just quit frustrated.

I am playing lately with the “No Cost” mod just because it is the only way to run realistic looking trains with lots of cars.  But really it would be great if the game worked better and allowed you to build the industries and make money with bigger more lucrative trains.

Locomotion worked better growing industries and even creating new ones that challenges you to expand your trains and build new routes to serve new industries.  TrainFever gets boring too quickly because it doesn’t give you the same reasons to keep playing.

I feel strongly that this is TrainFever’s Achilles Heel and needs to be addressed.  I can not understand why the developers have not rethought this matter.  It makes the difference between a game that stalls and goes nowhere versus a game that keeps you stimulated and challenged.

Maybe I am alone in my thinking, but perhaps at the medium or hard levels these mathematical calculations are necessary, but in the easy version sometimes I just want to run my trains and have them work!

    (More like Locomotion)

And for future reference, I had the same problem when I accidentally placed passenger stations instead of freight stations.  Also happens if you have a tiny gap in your catenary when you try to run electric trains.

Well, I do appreciate the effort.  The trains look great and Big Boy is one fantastic engine.

However, I have used the Big Boy DLC in both Locomotion and TrainFever.  In Locomotion, I have used back-to-back stations and ran enormous fully loaded coal and ore trains.  They look great.  Very realistic and impressive.

In TrainFever, Big Boy looks great too, but unfortunately never hauls any more than a few cars because the industry production is so measly.  In TrainFever, Big Boy looks rather silly hauling 5 open hoppers (with probably one or two empty).

The industrial production really needs a boost.  It becomes flat (sometimes even downgrades) and the game just drags.  I want to see my industries grow and produce.  There is a point where nothing happens and things just get boring here.

I think you really hit on something here.

I have often wondered why I keep going back to play Locomotion and really enjoy playing the game over and over, but Train Fever often gets a bit boring after playing for a while.

I think the industries are definitely part of the problem.  In locomotion the industries change.  They grow and they shut down and there are needs for new trains and new track and you have a reason to play more and more.

In TrainFever, the industries are pretty stagnant.  They don’t build up nearly fast enough for me and in fact often lose all progress due to a minor line stoppage due to a congestion problem or some line rebuilding.  I often just watch my trains run as nothing is really happening industrially and things get rather boring.

Industries never randomly popup anywhere requiring new tracks and train service and so there is little reason to respond and build new infrastructure which is part of the fun and challenge.

This would be a huge improvement.

Those are fantastic looking!  Great job.  I hope you will also do Superliners and maybe eventually Ultradomes!

I think this “Main Connection/Bypass” thing should be only for more difficult levels of play.  The easiest setting should not have it.

Yes, unfortunately the game becomes unplayable after a while.  Just bogs down and the lag is so frustrating I quit playing.

I’m not that knowledgeable on developing games, but does all the information on the individual population take game resources and slow things down?  I hardly use the “Sym” information and perhaps this could be something that you can shut off for improved performance?

I have my settings at “LOW” and the game simply can’t be played after a certain point.

Oh, I really like that depot idea.  You could place a depot parallel to the tracks and trains could access it from either side.  No more “can’t find path to depot” problems.

    EXCELLENT SUGGESTION!

I don’t think we are being ignored at all.  I believe that the developers are listening to our comments and making improvements.

I agree that the road building restrictions don’t appeal to me at all.  I want to build my track right through buildings and roads and stuff.  Automatic demolition and the ability for the town to rebuild the roads and building would be more desirable.

The depot doors?  Well it’s not the most important improvement especially when we badly need new track configurations (like level “X” track crossings) and new signals.  But improved animation makes the game look more modern.  I like the new gated road crossing and open hopper and stake car animations.  I would really like to see the industries come alive and do some fun things.  They are very beta looking.

But I think they are listening and working to make this game even better.  The best example is the new vehicle replacement feature which has really changed the game for me.

I’m sure there is more progress coming.  I find the game more fun to play after each update.
