The AIM mod mentioned above does look pretty cool. I’ve tried the ‘Cargo Mod’ and while it looked promising, I found it was too complex to work on this platform. The problem with that was that ALL industries needed to be connected in a chain for ANY goods to flow to towns. Fine but in TF with the 20 min rule, the probability of getting industries close enough was near impossible. New and more interesting resources are always needed in this and I’ll be trying the AIM mod to see if it’s any good.

In the mean time, the suggestion about Mail is a good one. Mail trains used to be very common, especially in the UK but there is one major thing I can see that will stop it working properly, the stations.  Right now, we cant have duel use stations and the vast majority of the mail was collected / delivered to and from passenger stations. To have to build a whole separate station on a small branch line just to collect a few bags of mail just isn’t practical. Maybe another idea for Train Fever 2?

Just run anther game upto the present day from 1900 and found performance to be no better. In fact, im now at 2010 with a great network setup and well over 400m in the bank and I’m having to abandon it AGAIN because it has become unplayable due to lag and slow frames.

This is how this game rewards you for doing well, grinding to a halt.

There is nothing to stop you placing as many stations as you want, three 5 platform stations can be grouped to make a 15 platform interchange. However, whether the game or your PC could handle so much traffic is another question.

Yes, I’ve stopped using bus stations, whats the point of them?? Just as easy to have a stop either side of the road or even two or more stops on the same side if you have a really busy network and they will hold more people and allow more room for buildings. Same applies to tram stations, the only time I use one of those is if I want a neat looking place for them to turn around.

Looks great, we certainly need more modern day coaches, keep it up!

Very nicely presented, you’ve got my vote! I very much doubt it’s possible, certainly would take a lot of work no doubt but hey, if there’s a Train Fever 2, I’m sure it’d be worth considering for that. After all, Cities in Motion does have platforms and stations that fit to the line, simply click any section you want a station and bang, there it is! All you’d have to do would be connect the road side and job done.

Well, that’s actually something I enjoy doing myself. Buying the new train, waiting for the old train to come in, clicking ‘return to depot’ and then sending the new one out as soon as it arrives. For me, gives some satisfaction to do it without delaying the service but certainly, doing it over and over can be a pain. It’s all down to personal tastes I guess.

    Here bloody here!

Couldn’t agree more, Urban Games, ignore letters like this at your peril otherwise you will sink fast. Remember, in the big scheme of things (ie, the internet games arena) train enthusiasts are very much a niche market and you probably already have a great percentage of them either playing the game or certainly, reading about it already. If you want Train Fever to go on to be a long term success and even be popular enough to warrant development of ‘TF2’ then you HAVE to fix this thing NOW. Otherwise, this time next year, we’ll all be playing something else and be referring to TF in other forums in the past tense. Be warned.

so I got the balance mod but now the game is broken.  it wont let me get rid of roads or even upgrade them saying its a maid connection bypass required, so I make the bypass but still cant do anything.

Nothing to do with the balance mod, it’s the latest patch from Urban Games. Yes, the people who MADE the game are causing more trouble than the mods, go figure……..

If the map is totally flat then you are probably getting a collision because the ‘water’ is intersecting with the road. When building roads, use the M and N keys to raise and lower the road to create bridges or tunnels. However, it’s obviously not supposed to be like this at all, the above is a workaround until you get it properly sorted. Have you tried a complete re-install?

Do you want another button that says ‘Auto Play Game’? Making certain things easier is fair enough but the developers have a lot more to think about than some people too lazy to manage their own fleets! This is supposed to be part of what the game is about………

Lets try to get this game playable first, then we can nitpick…………..

As an ex busdriver myself, I would counter this. Stopping at empty stops can help to maintain the schedule, if the bus can just sail past all the empty ones,  then its likely they would all catch each other up and bunch up. Also, its not true to say that in real life buses only stop if there are people there. In areas I have served, there were many ‘compulsory’ stops that had to be stopped at even if you were empty!

WHY have they done this? Can a member of the dev’ team speak up about this? I have studied both main TF forums a lot and have never seen ANYONE ask “hey, why don’t we lock all the peripheral roads so placing a decent sized station early in the game is nearly impossible, thanks!” They say briefly in the patch announcement that

“These changes lead to a more realistic passenger simulation and to a more interesting game experience.”

More realistic???? People only bulldoze roads for two reasons.

1, To make room for new rail infrastructure (as any rail company would do in real life)

2, To circumvent the games own FLAWED core that has goods still preferring to walk down a dirt road instead of using the 100kph rail line next to them!

For goodness sake Urban Games, FIX THE PROBLEMS IT HAS BEFORE ADDING MORE!

Depends on what yearI start in. If 1850, I’ve found the horse drawn stuff to be too slow to make much, if any, money. Use the fast forward tip and see wht industry is producing, then give it a goods line. Once that’s running, get a small branch line for passengers up and running and then leave the game to build. Remember to use savegames to be able to go back a year or two should a change not have made money.

If starting in 1900, get a couple of truck lines going for goods and then build a small passenger line, the same as above then and you should see steady growth.

Make sure you have the balance mod installed, makes the game make MUCH more sense economically.
