Since this is TRAIN fever (and since I’m fond of trains; I’m also a model train modeller, building my own railway layouts), I will try to use trains as the focal point of my network. I will use trams to collect people inside the cities toward the railway stations, and buses to connect the towns that do not yet have a railway connection. I tend to organize so each city has cargo, but If it flows by itself, I will not install my own transport. I will use trucks to get the cargo to cities that have bot yet their natural stream of cargo.
All goes will untill automobile takes over and causes the nation wide gridlock, with a standstil from city to city. Everything is crumbling down, and I have to hope that the collected millions are enough to get to the year 2000, with heavy losses, and abandoning all tram lines and maybe 70% of all train lines.
September 28, 2014 at 07:56 in reply to: Yeol plays Train Fever: the videos (with update anno 1960) #10203YeolParticipantI start most games by connecting towns with eachother by stage coach. Typically 20 stage coaches per connection is enough to get a nice income of about 100K – 300K per line. I will build around 10 lines the first decade, so once it’s 1860 I’ll have about 200 stage coaches running arround. And since they tend to buch up within the town centers because all cross roads and stops, it’s a rather bussy center.
Once I have a decent income, I’ll start building train connections between the town. Once a line is set up, and the train is running, I will abandon the stage coach line that is connecting those two towns. The train will have quite fast a decent public, because of the existing demand of traffic by people to go over there. So the train will be profitable within the first year.
The situation you saw is one where I just had installed the first train to another town, but still had 3 other stage coach lines running to 3 other towns. Add to this the internal tram system to get people to the railway station, and you have what you saw: dozens of people waiting for a stage coach or tram.
Javis, thank you for your feedback. π
YeolParticipantBencze, your city is huge! Klinn, beautifull screenshots!
My contribution then? The bus broke down, so the driver has parked it out of the way.Β π

YeolParticipantVery nicely mounted video, with a nice overview of vehicles. A pitty you had to include the publicity, and using another product as a vehicle to promote your stuff. Without the publicity it would have been great! π
(just my humble opinion)
YeolParticipantI enjoyed your videos on youtube. Thanks for sharing your game play with us. π
YeolParticipantIndeed, you have a point… roleplaying wise. (thumbs up!)
But technically and play wise, it would be less frustrating to be able to upgrade tracks to highspeed as one upgrades to electrical track. It seems to me not to complicated for the programmes to make it happen. But it’s their call.
YeolParticipantI don’t see it as a real problem, but I have to agree that I don’t see an even spread of trains on one line. Buses and trams tend to spread out better, as long as one uses the same type of bus/tram over the entire line. So, I think it is important to have exactly the same train compositions for all trains on the same line. If one train is a little slower (more cars… slower pulling… longer loading times), trains seem to join up in one after the other. But again, it’s not a real problem technically or finacially, but annoying to see it happen. π
September 27, 2014 at 09:16 in reply to: I see no difference in city growth with or without inside transport #10128YeolParticipantInside transport is not going to affect the city growth. Poeple can easily walk within 20 minutes from one end of the city to the other. They can get everywhere without public transport. So for the city it makes no difference.
Inside transport has 2 functions: get poeple arround FASTER, so they spend less time walking, and therefor have more time to go to take a train to another city. And, you get rich by transporting those poeple faster then they can walk… until automobile it taking over.
YeolParticipantThe developers (they are only 4 to my knowlegde) went on their “seduce Japan”-campaign last week. So, its rather normal that we did not get a lot of response past week. One week of absence, and “we” are starting to complain they are not listening?
In the support section of this forum, Mikael is answering almost all questions related to bugs that prevent people playing the game. He is quite actif and constructive in his answers. But I noticed also an absence of developers in this section, but I suppose they read and note down what seems interesting and doable.
There is another Train Fever forum, a lot more active then here, but entirely german. I’m not comfortable with the german language, so I stay here. I noticed also that the majority of Train Fever videos posted on Youtube are German. So I presume the game is especially attractive for German players. Why? (open question)
As long as I’m enjoying the game, I will be here to aid within my possibilities people with game play problems. I hope that this forum will continue to be available for the english speaking fans of Train Fever. I’m patient and confident that this game is going to be fantastic. We just have to have faith. π
I’m still enjoying the game a lot, even with it’s challenging interface. Call it another game challenge, and imagine achievements with it: “build a bridge over more then two tracks”, “used moreΒ then 2 station platforms with one line”, “upgraded a railway station successfully”… π
YeolParticipantI think the developers are making the right decision regarding the priorities: first get the game playable on all intended hardware, fix all major game breaking bugs (crashes,….) and put together a decent manual (though I would have hoped for a detailed user guide, explaining all about the workings of simulation model, the pathfinding systems and construction restrictions with tips and examples)
I find the list of coming features also quite decent. Especially the waypoints, laying road over rail, and industry chains. Achievements and eye-candy stuff are not my personal priority though.
I’m still enjoying the game a lot, by setting up my own goals with every new game (eg survive on hard mode with trains (done), integrated railway network to all cities on large map (current), grow the biggest city I possibly can (next), …
There will be a day I will get bored by playing the same game over and over, but I don’t blame the game. It’s a great game! And I have all confidence that it will get even better soon.
YeolParticipant@Javis, your setup will work. A demanding unit (city, industry,…) will look for the fastest supplier which can deliver within 20 minutes. The lucky supplier will then deliver the demanded amount of cargo. So when one supplier (your coal mine) can be the fastest supplier to ship to 2 demanding units (your 2 steel mills), it will produce and deliver. π
But keep in mind that this setup will work as long as the two steel mills also are the fastest suppliers to their respective cities.

YeolParticipantLot’s of people don’t care about multiplayer (like me), but I can imagine some do. Multiplayer has been announced for version 2 of Train Fever, which will take at least 14 more months to be ready. I refer to an article of last week where this announcement has been made:
http://www.gamestar.de/spiele/train-fever/artikel/train_fever,51449,3078239.html
YeolParticipantNo path means there is no connected road (or rail for trains/trams) between the current position and the next station on the list of the line the bus/tram/train is running on.
When you just created a new line and assigned new vehicles to it, the vehicles look for a path to the closest station on the line you attributed the vehicle to. A common problem is that you by mistake selected the wrong line (eg of another city). Or, you did not connect a piece of road (or rail) between the depot and the closest station/stop on that line.
YeolParticipantCreative gaming! I like your attempt to try and reduce the villages to just a hamlet of a few houses. But I personally am not a fan of those square road grid. To me they are boring, but everyone is free to play as he likes. Nice attempt, very inspirational. And, it’s all about having fun! π
YeolParticipantProbably the city you delivered to has found another sources for it’s goods that is faster than yours. Check the floating goods in your city, where are they coming from. A city just takes goods from only one supplier: the fastest wins it all.
